$200 alignment job

got a price for local alignment shop to do wheel alignment after installation of 6" fabtech lift, he said because it's lifted at least 200 or more. does this seem right??? i think it is alittle high, but not sure if shops get more because of lift.

Nope, he is BS'n ya bud. Cost me $55 if I remember right, and thats over here in the expensive part of the world (Marin/SF) I did get a discount....

I would call some other shops. Ask around. The guy who does our shops alignments said my truck was the easiest he has done in a long time !

Yeah that is way too much. The lift kit comes with adjustable bolts so dialing in the alignment is not that hard and should only take an experienced alignment tech an hour tops. Call around -

Well, there is where your $200 quote came from. You should be able to safely drive at least 20 miles to get the wheels aligned.

20 miles wont be too bad. Is this on highway driving ?

How bad is the alignment ?? I eye balled mine and did it some-what decent so that i could drive over to our alignment shop. Just look at it...

if it looks like this /---\ or \----/ dont drive it. If it looks fairly straight and doesn't wander EVERYWHERE then go for it. Your going to be causing "odd tire wear" but being 20 miles, shouldn't be an issue.

Sounds to me like he doesn't want to mess with it, so he went high as to make it worth his while if you do decide to let him do it.

Did he have the nerve to look you in the eye when he gave you that quote?

I paid $160, but there isn't many places in south Miami for lifted trucks. The guy also backed his work up and said they wouldn't slip and if I had any problems for the life of the tires he would make the adjustments.

20 miles is about how far I had to drive to get mine aligned since I installed my lift myself at home (I live in the country). After the lift, I started driving and my truck was all over the road. Barely made it out of my driveway. Had to do what MercedesTech did and 'eyeball' the toe setting to get the wheels pointed straight down the road. The drivers side was really pointed inwards to the middle of the truck. Ended up screwing the tie rod end out a few turns until the tire was pointed straight - then I was good to go.

you can get a lifetime alignment from firestone for less than 200. ask him why its more for lifted trucks. The suspension geometry is the same as stock and the parts that he will be adjusting are the same as stock (tie rods, upper arms)

assuming the lift came with cams and you installed them the alignment should be cake, these lifts are designed to be aligned true.

also, i had my last truck with a longtravel front end aligned for about 100, that guy is just gouging you
