I think you'll definately want to put the steering wheel extention in. That is something I wouldn't mess around with. It is a confined space to work in but I wouldn't chance it and it is not that difficult to do. It may work without it but I haven't heard of anyone not installing it with their kit. I would definately throw it in.

At some point, the body bolts give everyone trouble. Whether it be the 2 front bolts by the front bumper, the cab bolts or the bed bolts. I would try doing the following:

1. PB Blast all of them to help them break loose. You can be pretty generous with this stuff.

2. If you have access to a torch, have someone heat them from the bottom and then try to pull them from out from the top.

3. An impact wrench does wonders if you have access to one. Also, some people have even welded nuts on top of the bolts and tried to pull them off that way.

4. If all else fails, grind them off.

This should be the most difficult part of the job. The front 2 bolts and cab bolts never gave me any issues on the 2 installs I did, however the bed bolts were a PITA on both. Good luck man.

It's your call on the Transfer case extention

at first, i didn't install the transfer case extension, but i thought it looked like **** after i installed the lift. if i were you, i'd install the lift and see if you like how it looks. i wouldn't play with the steering shaft, although my buddy didn't install his, and he has a 6'' suspension as well as the 3'' body on 38's, and offroads hard. really, it will take only a min to install the extension, pull out the stock bolt, shove the shaft into the firewall, bolt the two together, and bolt the extension onto the shaft. the peace of mind factor when it comes to safety alone is worth the two minute install.

other things i would do: drill new holes into the frame 1'' forward as suggested in the instructions for the safety straps, the bracket on the frame for the ground, install the bed crush blocks, (some skimp out on these, but it is truly the right way to install the kit), the gas lines, and the transmission bracket. at first i didn't install the transmission bracket on mine, but i paid when the gear selector cable snapped, and had to replace it. honestly, do the lift right the first time, and avoid having to go back to install it properly, and replace broken parts. take this as lightly as possible, but you can't expect to jack a truck 3'' off its frame, and expect to compromise on extending the other necessary components. i know it's a PITA, but it will be worth it in the long run.

This may have already been said but ill say it again if it has.
If your going to get 35's anyways, the type lift you get isnt going to have any effect on your gas mileage. The tires is what does that. Why not just go with the suspension lift, it will look better and give you alot more ground clearance than the body lift.

right now, on 35's, my 03 scab 5.4L 4x4 is averaging 10mpg:o this, however, is mostly due my driving habits, flooring it, stomping it to hear the exhaust, etc. before the tires, i got 12 mpg. i am running the stock 3.55 LS, and my only mods are an intake, and headers/exhaust. expect to lose 1.5-2mpg, as most lose about that much.
