Body Lift Broke?........
Body Lift Broke?........
Has anyone ever heard of the body coming off the frame in an accident?
My mechanic claims that in the event of an accident the body will come off the frame with a body lift........could it happen?

Body coming completely off the frame in an accident due to a body lift? Doubt it...however, you will probably have a few of the body lift spacers fail in a real hard impact. Adding more parts to fail in any scenario will equate to more parts failing in an accident. While complete failure is highly doubtful, things such as shearing off the bolts, etc., due to the severe stresses put on any vehicle in an accident are probable...the g forces are unbeilevable in an accident.
Just my uneducated hypothesis...

I would say its possible, but not likely. Anything is possible. But I personally have not heard of anyone having that issue when in a accident. And im sure you would have to be cruisin pretty fast for the ENTIRE body to come off.

What's up alomar. Looks like a lot of the FTW crew is seeking alternatives to it.
I personally saw a 97 F-150 on 35's with a body lift at a local body shop. The driver struck a tree hard enough to bend the frame bad enough that it had to be replaced instead of just straightened. I only noticed one or two body mounts did pull loose, but this was an extreme impact. What I saw convined me that body lifts are perfectly safe. I don't think you have to worry about safety. Sure, it's possible for a body lifted truck to have the body ripped off the frame in an accident, but it's also possible for this to happen with a stock truck. Possible, but not likely.

And as you can see by my Join Date i have actually been around this place from the beginning. However it was very slow around here and not many folks in my neck of the woods I then ventured over to FTW and kind of made that my home, but have lately began coming back around here.
Not sure how many are still here from back when i joined up though.

Yeah my join date is just after I joined FTW. I Found FTW first, but was still learning and such since I had just barely got my truck. Kind of made FTW my home also, but that place is falling apart. I tried the blog, but it was really slow. So this is looking promising, good to see familiar faces also, such as yourself and wandell.

i think to have the body ripped off completely you have to hit something pretty hard and at that point the body coming off would be your last worry, with or without a body lift that type of impact would most likely me lethal!
It's a simple physics question. In an impact the coefficient of friction will always be low enough between the tires and the road so that they give waaaaaayy before any bolts on your body lift. It's never going to happen.
Not to argue here...but the friction between the road and tires has nothing to do with a collision. What we are talking about here is a collision between cars or a fixed object where all the kinetic energy is transferred directly to all the stressed points on the vehicle...like the frame bolts, suspension pieces, etc...a head on collision at 65 (each vehicle) is like a vehicle hitting a wall at 130...and there are plenty of points on a vehicle that will fail with that much energy being transferred.
While I agree with everyone else on here, it is improbable that a body will ever come off the frame in such a collision, there is a definite chance for something to shear off...adding a body lift into the equation adds to the possible points to fail. While I agree a body lift does not increase your chances of being hurt...I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in the accident that actually has that occur. Pretty sure none of us care that much about our trucks that after that type of collision we will be worried about whether or not the body lift caused more or less damage.

About 6 years ago I was fallowing behind someone who I suspected of being drunk and talking to the police on my cell phone when the guy swerved over and hit a tree head on with his S10 blazer.I was going around 60mph follwing him and he never even touched his brakes before hitting it.This thing was an early 80's and rusted all to hell bad and he didn't hit it in the center so it spung him around when he hit it and ripped the body off the frame but not completely.Only reason I think it did it was because of the rust and with corrosion like that it probably would have taken it off anyway even without the body lift but the body lift didn't help So I would only worry if the body was really rusted away around the body mounts. On another note,A guy we pour concrete for has a 06 supercrew powerstroke with 10in suspension and 3in body,(even though your not suppose to put one on a diesel) and was drunk driving and rolled it a couple times and the body stayed on the frame no problem.
I had a ranger with a 3" body lift and got rear ended hard. The vehicle crushed the box, bumper/frame didn't get touched by the impact.
The box hit the back of the cab, but none of the bolts or spacers broke. It actually made the frame banana shaped, due to the way she hit me. I have faith in the bodylift.
