Shock question...

I did a forum a search and it seems everywhere Bilsteins are recommended for about $70 a pop. But I still have a question and I don;t think anyone has quite asked it in this way...

I have an 04 SCrew totally stock with the original OEM shocks. I like the smoother ride of the truck now and I have to say that it handles very well when I pitch it into a corner. I am currently in SuckaFree and do more than 90% torturous urban driving thru traffic, tight bends, and over the meanest dips, cracks, and potholes short of Oakland. I would like to keep the better "road-handling" characteristics of the truck with maybe even some improvement. I also have a home/family in Arizona and it will see a few trips over dirt roads/off-road (nothing too crazy) and maybe the bottom of a creek or two so I still want a durable shock that can take some punishment. I plan on adding A/S leveling kit and I hope this doesn't adversely effect the sweet street handling...

What is the best shock, regardless of price, that leans more towards road performance than O/R? And then regarding price, what is a good valued shock that leans more towards street performance?

Thanx for the input:o

I am currently running Bilsteins on my lifted truck and had the Edelbrock IAS Shocks prior to lifting it and in my opinion the Edelbrock give a nice ride. Can't go wrong with either though. I will be swapping the Bilsteins out with the Edelbrock Extreme Travel Reservoir IAS shocks once the Bilsteins begin to fail.

Ya know, I had a set of those on my stang way back when & I thought they did work well. I was thinking of going that way. However, if the bilsteins end up being cheaper I may go that route. I've heard that the Edlebrock IAS's wear off fast.... thats just what i heard.

Had a set of OE replacement Bilsteins put on my 04 and it improved the ride over the OE shocks. A bit firmer, but not overly so.

Richard...What's up buddy!!!! I have the Extreme Travel IAS remote reservoir shocks. Brand new they were awesome, but I estimate they lasted about 40,000 miles before there was a noticeable degradation in performance. And since then they have tapered off fast. Rebound dampending is too slow and I get a lot of wheel hop over certain bumps. A little dissapointing to me for a $200 shock that's not rebuildable. I also had the Edelbrock IAS prior to this on my truck with no lift and found them to be too soft for my personal taste. They did ride great on the road though if that's what you're after.

If I were to go high dollar shock again it would be the Pro Comp MX6R's. but after all the hype (and after running them on my Lexus) I will be going Bilstein 5100's next time. This may make me a complete dork but...the finish on my current Edelbrocks are the same as the 5100's so I'm gonna pull the reservoir off my Edelbrocks and strap them to the 5100's for looks!!
