Lowering an 08 SuperCrew?

I recently lowered the rear of my 08 SuperCrew with the Ground Force shackle and shim kit. I have lowered a few trucks before and figured just a rear shackle should be a peice of cake. But hit a snag in the install that added time and alittle fustration.

There is a floating weight on the driver side frame. It is attached to the frame with rubber mounts and bolts. I'd say it weighs about 5-10lbs. I never seen anything like this on a truck before. It is right in the way from removing the top bolt from the stock shackle.

Anyone else have to deal with this weight on the frame, if so what did you do?

I ended up removing the weight as one attachments on the frame came out with very little force and was not going to secure it anymore.

I can't figure out why it was there in the first place. The truck drives fine without it.

I figured I would post about it to let others know there might be alittle bit more to a simple shackle install and to find out why is it there and what others have done about it. I searched and didn't find anything and pretty sure I'm not the first to lower an 08.

I am a newbie to the site, I have an 08 Super Crew FX2 and I just received my GF Shackle/Shim kit. I am doing a lot of searching before I go out and throw them on. I did see the weight sitting on the frame; my question is how did you remove it and does anyone know what the purpose is?

Thanks, I hope to post up some pics of my new Screw soon.

the weight is used as a vibration suppressant. It was implemented in mid 2005 model, on some trucks depending on cab/bed configurations.

Most luxury SUV's have them including the Land Rovers I work on daily.

It was a PITA to loosen the bolts with an open end 13 wrench. That was the longest part of the install. Now I am thinking about adding the Eibach 2/3... I enjoy the side boards for the family; I will have to loose them afterwards.
