Trade in with a lift kit installed?

I was wondering what reactions people have had from dealerships when trying to trade in a truck that has been lifted. I put a 3" body lift on recently, and despite this am still thinking about trading in for a new truck. What kinds of "lines" are the sales people giving you when you ask what you could get for your truck.

Your best bet would be to sell it privately. A dealer will never give you a good value for your trade in. Find some kid, perferably with some rich parents, and sell it to him. Tell him how sweet your ride is and tell the parents how safe it is. I know it may take a bit longer but it will most likely give you quite a bit more money in return. My 2 cents.

I spent this summer looking for a new truck and wanted to trade in my 99 ex cab 4wd w/6in susp 3in body and 38 thornbirds and I found a truck I was interested in at 3 dealers.the 2 ford dealers wanted to give me more for it since it was lifted. One offered $9500 trade in and the other 10,000 trade in.I asked each what they would give me without lift and tires and they both said around $7-$7500.I went to a chevy dealer that had a killer deal on an 05 and they wouldn't give me anymore the $7000 with it lifted and I asked if I took the lift off what would they give me and they said the same price ,they really didn't care if it was on or off.Now 5 years ago when I went to trade my 97 lifted 250 in for the 99,the same dealerships wanted to penalize me for having a lift and knocked the price off trade in to put it back to stock.Shows you how things have changed in 5 years.I brought that up to them when I was talking about trading in also and they said there is a market for lifted trucks now when 5 years ago there wasn't.They said they can't keep lifted trucks in stock for more then a couple weeks. So I would leave it on,it adds to the value for sure.

im just saying what ive heard around here... thats it any after market things on a vehicle will reduce its value to the dealership! they are called the STEALERSHIP for a reason! thats why you see everyone putting their stock parts back on a vehicle before trading it in! find someone that wants a lifed truck craigslist is a start and sell it there!

I could definently see how it could vary from state to state.I just assumed it was like that all around like it is here in Michigan. And just so ya know, it was the dealerships that offered me more for the lift on it then without.I was surprised, they actually recognized the value of the aftermarket stuff we put on.

depends on the state. im in so.cal. where everyone has a lifted truck. the dealership where i got my truck had a few trucks that were brand new that they installed procromp lifts onto in hopes to make some extra cash. and just about every lot that sells trucks they have gotten as a trade in has a least a couple lifted trucks. really depends on where you live imo

I would say it depends as well. I have noticed around where I live that there are private dealerships that sell all makes and models of cars but for the most part they have already been lifted or had aftermarket mods done to them. Some people don't want to have to deal with that stuff and would like to buy a vehicle with it done. Others want to do it themselves.

very true and here in FL there is a lifted truck at ever light... mostly stuff people buy from the dealership and they dont know anything about it! but theres alot of difference between the suspension and Body lift... but yeah i know of a few "buy here pay here" places that will shell out more money for customized things... you just have to look around.

well it just depends on what it looks like, i traded my 03 sporttrac with 5 inches of lift and 285s, it sold before i went back with the floormats i told them i had and that was the next day, my trac was so clean that they did not have to give it to the used car guy to clean a lady bougth it as it was. The first dealer i went to told me that he could sell my trac before i left with my new Fx4, normaly they are hard to sell modified but i even went to car max and they would buy it the way it was and not change anything cuz it looked stock to them and was clean as hell normaly they will return anything they buy back to stock, so if your truck is nice and looks clean it should not hurt you at all cuz i see lots of lifted new trucks on the lots around here.

You can sell it on consignment at some dealerships and may get what you want. My buddy sold his old lifted ranger at a dealership. He said I want $X and they sold it for about $2000 over $X and it more than covered their expenses. It was good for him because he had a lift, tires, new HU and speakers, etc. So some kid financed it and drove away with his truck. It took about 2 weeks to sell. That was the plus of selling through a dealership.

Thanks for all the good info guys...I guess I'll just have to start visiting dealers and see what they say. Seems like the f150 screw is really popular around here judging by the number I've seen on the streets so maybe I'll have some good luck.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!
