re gear?

When you re gear your truck, does that help you with gas any or what exactly does it do?

If you run 35" or taller tires lower gears will restore your lost pulling power and keep your engine rpm's more in the power band. Usually 4.56 or 4.88 gears. They will usually help out in city driving with mpg's, but hurt a little on the hwy due to turning more rpm's. If you want to pull heavier load's they are almost a must. If gas mileage is a priority, stick with stock gears and 33 or shorter tires.

That's kind of a vague question. It depends on what gear you have now, what you want to go to, what you plan on doing with your truck, driving habits, etc. We need a little more info to help you out with that question.

When I run my 33's with 3.73 gear's I get 13 to 14 mpg, and that's with the AC on. With my 35's it drop's down to 11 to 12 mpg. These are in town start and stop figures. Overall I can't complain about my gas mileage. I still get up to 18 hwy when I drive it right!

with taller tires anything above 35" i would regear. it is harder on your tranny without the taller gears, because it is always struggling to find a gear to stay in. at least thats the issue with mine, and i run 36's and 20's. i have the 3:55 LS in my rear end and i plan on steppin up to at least 4:56's very soon.

Yea nooq u need to regear. Hurricane if u got 3.55 u may think about 3.73 or 4.10. One of the 2 should be ok for u and the right one would give back some of the power u lost with 33s and fuel ecomany. It may only be .5 mpg but every little bit helps.

I regeared recently to 4.56's and it really didn't do a whole lot for my mileage. First tank after regearing my mileage was 10.8 mpg and my 2nd tank went up to 11.4 mpg. I am in 95% stop-n-go traffic out here in Hawaii so my mileage is going to suck no matter what I do. I didn't regear for the mileage though, I did it to regain lost power and the reasons nooq stated. I am very happy with my decision.
