Front leveling on 03 fx4 Scab
Front leveling on 03 fx4 Scab
I have an 03 Scab fx4 that I am planning on leveling the front. Is it true that you can adjust the torsion bars on these to increase ride height?? If so, has anyone done it and how does it ride? Any other modifiications that need to be done if I do it? Thanks for any help!!

Yep. You can get anywhere from about 1.5"-2.5". Just turn the keys an equal # of turns on each side. Do a search for Torsion Bar Crank I think. Pics and everything.
Rides a little stiffer IMO but every truck is different. You'll want an alignment afterward.

They make torsion keys so u can lift the front and not loos ur ride. I got mine at genral spring. They take less then an hour to install plus an alingment.
Yes, but they do the exact same thing as cranking up your torsion bars. Both increase the preload on the torsion bars to raise ride height. The claim that the aftermarket keys don't affect ride quality is just marketing bs.
The only thing new re-indexed keys will do is change the amount of adjusting bolt that is used so you can get the lift without maxing it out. I have not really looked at my F150 bolt and key closely but most torsion bar configurations are the same and theoretically if you crank up the OE keys you put the bolt deeper in the key. The re-indexed key is "KEYED" for the bar to be repositioned so as to use the same amount of bolt and gain lift, but you still are twisting the bar to gain that lift. The leveling key doesn't magically change anything to lift the truck without twisting the bar. Marketing BS is exactly right, it HAS to change the ride because you ARE changing the amount of twist on the bar or it would not raise...period. It also stresses CV joints more because they aren't designed to run at steep angles for long periods.
Other types of lifts are better alternatives.
I'm not sure about 2003 but my 2000 is barely noticeably lower in the front. I wouldn't waste the money or chance damaging other components for a little gain. Put the $200 plus that they charge for these kits toward something more useful or cool for your truck. Of course this part is only my opinion,
