Not sure if this helps any. But I had the same thing on my truck, was more of a clicking noise on my 2007 f-150 Harley 2WD and they had to replace the front bearing and hub. Not 100% sure on the hub replacement. I know original was 4X4 but thought I'd throw that out there.

 

I could well imagine they do have the same problem, these tie rods have to be checked on a regular basis, say every oil change before they get ****. Looking back, I did not check, had popping and all kinds of crap till months later it let go while I was driving. Ya, no fun So now, after another went, then another, I ended up changing all out (passenger side outer was the only one still alright, but figured wth?) and replaced with MOOG ones with a grease fitting. Smooth sailing now boy!
