HELP!!! Shock advice needed
OK guys, I have called JEGS, Shock Warehouse, and Autozone and have rec'd 3 different answers. I need new shocks and want Edlebrock - but I dont know if I need the IAS Performer or the Xtreme.
This is why...
I own a 2003 Ford F150 2WD 4.2L and I have a 3.5" Fabtech spindle lift on the front, 2" blocks in the back. I am running 285/75R16 (not sure if that matters). How do I know what shock fits my truck?
Thanks you soooooooooooooo much!

Not really sure what you're asking??? Are you asking if Edelbrock makes both a IAS and the Extreme to fit your truck since you have a lift?? Did you go to Edelbrock.com and look??? You must have some type of aftermarket shock on there now since it's lifted??
With your lift, I would go with the Extreme. I have them. Actually, I have had both. Had IAS's when stock and have the Extreme's now with the lift. They're OK. The IAS's really didn't make much difference at all over stock believe it or not. I'd say handled better, but ride was unchanged. The Extreme's on the other hand were a noticeable difference, but with 40k on them now, they are really starting to show signs of fading. I would have expected an aftermarket shock to last a lot longer than that.
My next shock will be either Bilsteins (spelling??) or Explorer Pro Comp MX6R's.

talked to Edelbrock today. With the spindle lift, the stock equivalent (IAS Performer model 3350) needs to go on front since the spindle lift didnt change the dimensions for the shock. But for the rear, I need the 4x4 Xtremes, model 3451, since that did change and IAS Performers are too short - even though I own a 4x2. They say the mounting is not affected. Hmm that doesnt seem right...
Makes perfect sense. The mounts for the shock didn't change from stock...nor would they for any reason. You need a longer shock for the rear since the distance between the shock mount on the axle and the one on the frame are now further apart. Probably has more travel also. Not familiar with the 2WD set up so don't know without looking at one if the shock length on the front of yours is the same as stock or not...but if they say so.
However, I personally would not be a fan of putting a IAS on the front and an Extreme on the rear...but that's just me.

For those who add Edelbrocks to your 2WD lifted F150 - the guys at Edelbrock tech support are clueless.
Front takes 3350 for applications with stock ride or spindle lift.
Rear take 3451 (4WD shocks) for lifts between 2" - 4.5" and fit great!
Edelbrock told me none of their shocks would work for my setup.

Id personaly go with Bilsteins. They are a better shock than Edelbrock and make a shock for pretty much any application. Click on the links below for the exact shocks for your truck.
