6" lift questions for my FX4

Finally decided I think I want to lift my 04 FX4 6". I've been searching around here and think I narrowed my choices down to either the Fabtech 6" or the Pro Comp 6". I plan to upgrade to Traction Bars and a Skid Plate after the initial investment.

Anyways, heres the questions:

I currently have 295/75/17 Nitto's. Would these look to small with a 6" lift? I plan to upgrade to 35's when these wear out? This one is purely cosmetic.

The bigger question I have is:
Is there a big difference between going with the coilovers or spacers? This is a mostly street driven truck, that serves as my hunting/tow rig for my Jeep XJ that I use for the real offroading.
I dont mind a little rougher ride, and I'm more concerned if the spacers affect durability or reliability.

Also, is there anything not included with the kits above that should be addressed?

NEW Question: Will factory 17" rims work with the Pro Comp kit?

Thanks,
Brian

I think that you'll find that 295's will look small after you put on a 6" lift.

As for the coilovers or spacers. I have the procomp with the spacers. I have no complaints about the handling or ride but I still wish I had gotting the coilovers now just because I think it would look about 100 times cooler then the spacers do.

As for the kits, I know the procomp included everything but there are 6 holes in each spindle (3 front and 3 back) that are not tapped, so you should be prepared to tap them yourself before you do the install.

I've posted this before but here it is one more time;

Are you running 35's? Also, what size were your stock tires in the photo's?

I was thinking the same thing at first, although, according to a converter I found here: http://www.rockcrawler.com/techrepor...&Submit=Submit
A 295/75/17 is pretty much a 34" tire. I've seen one or two pictures with 315/70/17 which is also pretty much a 34" tire, that dont look that bad. Since most people run 35's I'm trying to decided if a 34" tire would really look that much smaller.

I believe this truck belongs to Beaver Tricks on this forum. According to his profile his truck has the 6" Fabtech with the 315's.

And, obviously the fact that I can upgrade to bigger tires later keeps nawing at me.

Thanks for the info and write up!!,

Brian

Personally if your truck is going to be driven strictly on pavement I wouldn't spend the extra money on expensive coilovers. From what I saw online the Pro Comp 6" lift with spacers is slightly cheaper than the Fabtech lift, but I think the Fabtech lift is worth the slightly additional cost. If you go with the Pro Comp spacer lift and decide later you want to add a leveling kit for an additional couple of inches of lift you won't be able to because you'll already have a spacer stacked on top of the coil. With the Fabtech lift you'll be able to do this with no problems.

Since you're a 4WD truck I'd think you'd want a 35" tire at a minimum, but if you already have the 34's then stick with those and upgrade when you need to purchase new tires.

Thanks for the info. I found this truck while searching for a setup similar to what mine might look like.

I believe this is Hash278s truck, which I think is a clean looking 1/2 ton!

According to his specs he's running a 6" Pro Comp and 33" tires. To me, that truck does not look to bad with 33's. I think I will be alright with my truck and 34's until I make the move to 35's.

One more question before I go ahead and order from some where, will factory 17" rims work with the Pro Comp kit? This is the last piece of the puzzel before I order.

Thanks for the info,
Brian

Your Nitto 295/70-17's are basically a 34x12.00-17 tire, so I think they will look ok with a 6 inch lift. I'm not sure if you will be able to use the oem wheels with the Pro Comp lift. I'd contact them and ask.

I use the stock rims and 35"'s on my 04 with 6" PC lift. I needed a grider to grind away about 3/16" from the supplied A-arm for tire clearence at the top inside next to the tire. Only on the driver side.

Yes, i'm running 35's. And I didn't look before I spoke. I saw 295 and just thought to myself that it was a bit smaller than the 325 that my size starts with. I think it will look fine.
