Noob here with a noob question....

Hi all.. so ive been reading and searching and im either searching for the wrong things or not seeing what id like to know. Anyhow... this is my first ford truck. Its a 2004 2wd Lariat Supercrew. I put 24s on it and am just not happy with how it sits. I would like to go for more of a 4wd look.

Ive read alot about the leveling kits from autospring and am pretty decided on going with the 2.5 front leveling kit. My question is... with 20inch wheels should i run a 305/55R20 tire? Also, what is the difference in height on a 4wd vs. a 2wd, stock for stock? I dont go off roading... ever. Just have to clear the occasional high water here in Houston, Tx. I dont mind a little rubbing at full lock. I would just like to know if this combo will work out ok. If anyone has pictures of a setup like this, i would love to see them. Any help is appreciated. thanks!

ps. sorry if any of this doenst make much sense... its 3:40am lol

you will be fine with that wheel & tire setup. May i suggest a suspension lift setup of any kind... if its for looks only. If you're a 4x2, go with a 6" pro comp lift, if money is a "thang" (cuz they are cheap). the difference between the 4x4 and 4x2 is about a 2" difference, only thing is consiting of blocks in the rear and larger coils in the front. but let me tell you, i have a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift on a 2005 F150 2WD with 17's and 35's, and i have pulled up next to a 150 with a 8" rize and i sit level with em'. Straight up.

Benny-
I dont think a leveling kit would be enough on a 2x4, b/c basically if you do that you'll be sitting only half an inch higher than a stock 4x4 (if i did my math right). I would def. go w/ a suspension lift and/or a body lift.

Thanks for the input. My only deal is, i really wanted to stay away from a suspension lift, mainly because ill never really put it to use. Its pure cosmetics. I just wanted something slightly higher than stock and to put to use these 20s that i have that came with the truck when i bought it.

well, i guess do the leveling kit, but it'll be only a half an inch higher than a stock 4x4, so i guess you could say that's sligltly higher. maybe do a body lift along w/ the leveling kit?

I wouldn't worry about not putting it to use. A lot of the lifted 4x4 people here have mall crawlers for trucks (I didn't say all so those of you reading, don't even start to jump on my case)

If the only negative you have about the suspension lift, is that you'll never use it. You should get it. It's better for you truck to have correct angels on the front suspension. A leveling kit will raise thefront too high for the components to work/wear properly.

Go for the 6".

Probably 90% of lifts sold are "for looks only".

Very true. I would definitely get a suspension lift.

I have a 2WD and my suspension lift's for cosmetic reasons only. I had the 2.5" AS leveling kit on there before I lifted it. Trust me when I say that once you get the leveling kit on there you'll only want to go bigger. Save yourself the money and just get the 6" Fabtech suspension lift now.

As stated above, it is better for the drive components if it is a lift kit. I got mine for both looks, and function...and love it so far. I just whent offroading yesterday in some apple-oarchards and had loads of fun, and would most definately not have made it with a stock 2x4, although I did almost roll her lol
