99 4x4 lift Body vs. Suspension

I was looking at putting a little lift on my 99 4x4, but everything is 4" or bigger and $1200 and up for suspension lifts, are body lifts cheesey or a pain in the buttocks???? HOw long to install???

Body lifts are not that hard to install, just time consuming and tedious. It took me an entire weekend to install mine, but I was working mostly by myself.

Mine looks good and it took a shop of 2 people about 8 hours. If you do it yourself it will take about 14 hours or a a weekend. They are not cheesy at all and you can clear 35's with a 3inch body, but you have to trim the lower part of your valance.

If you dont want anything bigger than a 4" lift, then the 3 inch body lift is a great choice! Check out the pics of the trucks above. These are pics of a body lift done right. They have gap guards and running boards which make the frame of the truck not visible. I think with the gap guards and running boards a body lift can look just a professional as a suspension lift.

Just remember don't get too high on body lifts, like over 5 or 6 inches, they are much more unstable than suspension lifts.

3 inches is the limit with a body lift and it will not level your truck Tuff150.

Question

So can someone give me a basic run down of what are the steps to installing a body lift?

That is where the bad reputation of body lifts comes from.
Basically, you install 3 inch spacers between the frame and body (at the body mounts) and raise the bumpers to match.

I dont think you do. Body lifts are the best way to save $$ and clear some 35's.
