Question Help With Hellwig Swaybar

I have a '97 2WD. I've had a Hellwig rear swaybar for about 5 years now. It makes a big difference in body roll as well as drastically reduces 'axle hop' in the soft stuff. The problem I run into is that every time I do even moderate articulation (i.e. going into a steep driveway at an angle) I hear this loud pop as the axle brackets slide on the axle housing. I've talked with Hellwig and have been using the correct amount of torque (and maybe a little more) and they've even sent me another entire axle mounting kit. No matter what I do the bar wants to rotate on the axle which is starting to bend my brake lines. I've been considering having the brackets welded to the axle housing so they don't roll. Since I am a welding novice I was wondering if it is a good idea to weld on my axle housing? If so, does it matter which type of welder I use?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

lol i've been having the same popping noise for some time now and didn't realize that was it. (mostly happens with the truck is articulated like going up a steep incline like the entrance to my parking garage.) i wouldn't weld on the axle personally man. i haven't seen it rotating too much on mine but i'm going to check tonight now that you've said something.

THANKS!!!

I too would like to hear more info on this. Does this happen with all of the after market rear sway bar kits? Brian42 how much of angle are you talking about as far as angle of degree or height. I'm glad you posted this, I'm in the market for one right now. How are your break line holding up? Will you have of bend new ones to clear the rear swaybar?
