You mean the nut of the ball joint? Put it back on lose. Do you have the jack under the A arm holding the truck up?

Put the jack under the A arm, That will help compress the suspension and take some of the load off the ball joint.

Ball Joint Jack

I recently replaced upper and lowere ball joints on my 97. I went to autozone and picked up the tool to remove and replace ball joints, the only way to go. Tools were $100 and you get your money back when you return tools.
