Were these the original??

Ok, I did my shocks this morning. Not to bad. An hour and forty five minutes. The rear, top nuts were frozen.
The top portion outer shield was mad of plastic. The entire shock was black. I bought this truck used with 190k (2001) miles on it. Just wondering if they were original?

Yes, probably...

I had a 2000 f150 Lariat 4x4 with the same black shocks you were talking about. They are all black and completely incased in plastic. Those are the ones. I switched mine out with Bilsteins and it made a huge difference. I could be wrong but unless you have the FX4 package with the Rancho shocks and skid plates, I think these are the OEM shocks that come with the vehicle. I totaled my 2000 and upgraded to an 03 with the FX4 package and those are the originals only they are Rancho's. I am almost positive the shocks off my old 2000 were never changed, henced they sound like the same ones you just pulled off.

Out of curiouslity, what shocks did you swap them with and how do you like them???

Thanks for the input.
I ended up getting the monroe sensa-trac. I've only taken one drive with them on-today going to work. So far they seem ok. I'm gonna hit a few roads on the way home that were driving me nuts and see how they act.
I've always had off road packages in the past with the ranco shocks. My wife been complaining about the ride on this one. She keeps telling me how she expected a lariet to have a better ride.

I just saw your location. Is that Whitmore lake in Michigan. I drive through there every day to work!

It sure is, I live just down Margaret St (which is between Polly Market and the bowling alley), the only brick house on the street. I drive a blue Screw Lariat, which is getting a body lift and new bilsteins next weekend. If you are ever in the neighborhood or see me out, pop over and introduce yourself. I am always outside doing stuff, especially in the summertime. We can drink a couple or six

Hello Bullseye,

Just curious after having the new shocks a few days what do you thing?

We are talking about softer ride right? Bumps not so harsh?

No difference, maybe a little difference, anything dramatic?

Is this on your 01 lariat screw?

I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

Figgy

Figgy, I'd say that it rides a lot better now. Yea, its a softer ride. My wifes actually drives it more than me. She always said that it felt like crap. She has told me that it feels a lot better now. More like it should. We do live on a dirt road which is now much more tolerable. Yes this is on the 01 supercab 4x4.
Overall, I'd say I'm very happy with the results.
Looks like I need to fix my bio. Its a super cab not a screw. That was the last one.
