Please Help - Installing PA 3" Body Lift Right Now!

I am installing a new PA body lift on my 2002 Super Cab right now. I have the bed done and I have everything apart for the cab and started to remove the 6 cab bolts. I have the two front ones out without any trouble. Now, I am starting the 4 that are inside the cab. I have them all broken loose, but I guess they thread into the bottom washer thingy. Well, my washer things are spinning! How am I supposed to hold them still while I turn the bolt from in the cab??!?! Is there some trick I need to know? Someone please respond quickly so that I can get this finished up today.

Thanks in advance!

John

John,
If I am reading this right you are saying that the nut is fused to the screw and spins with the screw when you are turning it? If this is the case why not have a friend come over and help hold the bottom stationary with a wrench?
I have been told these kits are hard to install alone.

Right. You need to have a friend hold the round bushing/nut with a pipe wrench or large pair of channel lock pliers.

Yeah, I believe what he is saying is there is no nut on these. The bolt actually threads into the bottom washer.

Im an autobody/frame tech and when those freeze up like that they can be difficult to remove. We usually use a giant pair of channellock pliers to hold the washer still. You may be able to use a large pipe wrench to hold it.

Well, I did exactly that. I had my brother come over and hold them with a huge set of channel locks.

Its all coming together nicely. The bed is done. The rear bumper is done. The cab is sitting on the blocks and all new bolts are threaded. I still need to do the front bumper and then finish all the small stuff (radiator, carpet, etc)

Wow, what a difference! My truck was already sitting on 33" Mud Grapplers and I thought that was pretty high. Now, my 33"s "almost" look small. I will snap some pics and get them posted soon.

Thanks for the replies guys!!

Hey I was just wondering about something with installing body lifts on todays trucks. I've had body lifts on my previous trucks, a 73 F-100 4x4 and a 68 Bronco, with no problems. But if I were to put a body lift kit on my 04 FX4 (new body style) how would I solve the problem with my Airaid CAI going from the engine to the 3" higher body where the shield and filter is?

I doubt there would be much fabrication. Just take a look at it and see if ther is enough room to raise the filter 3 inches. I know on my 01, there was enough flex in the intake that nothing had to be modified.

Well, I finished installing my body lift and added some pics to my gallery.

I do have a question though. What am I supposed to do with the emergency brake cable? I got a bracket with the kit that I "think" would be the bracket to use, but I can't figure out how to use it. I was thinking of just cutting the existing bracket off the frame. Then welding it in a new location that works.

Thanks! The pic below is my favorite. Wandell (or anyone that might have an idea), I have posted this here before but haven't been able to get a solid response from anyone.

I have had my truck for about a year and a half. When I first got the truck, the four wheel drive worked perfectly. About 6 months ago, my truck stopped going into low range when I turned the switch all the way to the right. The 4x4 light would light up; the low-range light would do the same. But, instead of going into the low gear, it remained in 4x4 high. It was going into four wheel drive, just not low (even though the dash indicated that it was in low). This went on until a couple of weeks ago. I was driving down the road and the transfer case popped out of gear at 50 mph. It was as if I had a manual-shifting transfer case and I had put it into neutral.

So, I pulled over and after several minutes of starting the truck, shutting it off, switching the 4x4 ****, and moving the transmission lever into every possible position..... I finally got the transfer case to kick into a gear. That gear was 4x4 low! I couldn't get it into anything else. So, I drove the truck home and parked it. The next day, I came out to the truck. I put the 4x4 switch into 2 high, left the truck in park, and started it. It switched into 2 high and all was OK. I drove around the block and came back to the house. I put the truck into park and switched to 4x4 low. The dash lit up as "4x4" and "low range", but all I got was 4x4 high again. I don't get it. I would really hate to have to take it to a shop and spend $300, just for them to tell me what is wrong with it.

Could ANYONE point me into a direction that might help me out?

It's got to be a problem with the switch.
