Thinking about solid axel conversion for 01 screw

I have been thinking about lifting my 2001 screw 4x4 about 6inches for a while now. Recently is was suggested that i convert my IFS to a solid axel; thus enabling me to have a more versatile lift. The thought sounds cool, but is it a real possibility, and is it cheaper than a run of the mill fabtech 6inch lift? thanx for any suggestions or help

the reason people put straight axels on independent suspension trucks is so they can run a huge tire with a huge lift! if all you want is a 6" just buy the fabtech.

A more versatile lift? That's a phrase I've never heard before... is the guy trying to sell and install the conversion for you?

It depends what your usage is going to be whether there's any sense in going to a solid axle, and as someone said, the easy way would be upgrade to a SuperDuty.

Solid axles have less that can go wrong with them - basically less moving parts. For much larger tires (over 36") with lots of off road work it makes a lot of sense. For slower, hard core off roading (trails, mud, rocks) straight axles allow for better articulation. If you want to run dry gulches at speed... stick to the IFS.
