lowering a 4x4

i know it souds odd but i have an 02 fx4 and im trying to figure out if it is possible to lower it. why? because i want something different. right now i have 20s with 33s and i want to drop it and put some 22s on. i like the idea behind 4x4 for just in case. and to be honest i realy just dont feel like selling my truck just to buy the same thing in 2 wheel drive. thanks for the help, john

the only thing I know you could do would be to do it the old fashion way and cut the coil springs to lower the front and either flip the rear leafs or get new hangers or shackles. Thats how I have lowered several older model chevys but they were all 2wd I dont know what problems your gonna run into with having front axles and transfer case and all that extra stuff for a 4x4
I wouldn't think that you are gonna actually be able to lower it that much but hey you can make anything work if you want to bad enough so Good Luck

you could remove the factory block in the rear. I'm not sure if you could lower your torsion bars? I know many will crank em up to get more lift in the front.

I believe there are lowering kits for your truck. You can remove the rear 2 inch lift block to lower the rear two inches. Up front you can back off the preload on the torsion bars to lower it slightly.

im looking for a drop like a 2-4 on a 2 wheel drive truck. does anybody know who would make a kit for a 97-03 4x4 crewcab. i dont think the rear would be the problem its the front. the rear i would just remove the blocks and put on some lowering shackles but i dont think the torsion bars will lower enough in the front. if anyone knows of a kit let me know. thanks

yeah i wasn't real sure what kinda front suspension you had sorry but i dont think I know of any way to do yours with out a custom kit you may wanna just try to contact some of the big name companies that make lowering kits and ask them they may have something or be able to come up with something to fit just dont give up sometimes it takes a little extra work to do something different but then again thats what will set it out form every thing else good luck

i did some researching and found that belltech makes a kit for 4wd f150s that includes the torsion keys that lowers 1-3 in the front and the shackles that lower 4 in the rear. i think im gonna go with this. ill let you know how it works.

I've been looking into this for a while now and here is what I've found. I have hangers and shackles for the rear and will be removing the 2" factory blocks as well. This should give a 5-6" drop in the back. Up front I'll be getting the Belltech torsion keys and hopefully I can squeeze about a 4" drop out of those. You will need new shocks with this drop and I would recommend looking into the stock Lightning/HD Bilsteins. More than likely a camber kit for the front and a good alignment will finish the job. Let me know how it works out if you do this, because I won't be putting all my stuff on until May.
