Hi Everyone!
Im new to the site and had a couple of quick questions. I just bought on 07 screw 4x4. I wanted to level it and put on bigger tires.
1. I was wondering if I gain any advantage by using leveling shocks such as Bilstein 5100s over just a spacer leveling kit. I didnt know if that would place less pressure on the u-joints etc, or if its not worth the money.
2. I wanted to keep my stock 20s that came with my truck and was wondering what a good trire selection would be. I was wondering what would be the widest tire I could go with witout sticking out of the wheel wells. I was oping for some 305/55/20 Nitto TGs. I just dont want to mess up my new black paint.

From what I have read and heard on forums like this, unless you have a kit that relocates some of the steering components, a level kit is the same as lift shocks and whatever else is out there.
As for the Nittos, allot of people like them and use them on this sight. My friend has them on his Chevy, pretty soft compound and they are not wearing so well.
Your stock 20's I think are 8" wide, if you use a 2.5" level kit you could go with the new BFG K/O in 285/65/20. Perfect width for your rim and still 34.5" tall with no rubbing issues. Tires are a little pricey but worth it.

I love the way your truck sits, i am about to do the same setup. I am not up to par on how to read tire sizes yet. Could you please break that down for me into simpler terms.... Like 33s or 35s... etc. Or explain to me how to read tire sizes. Also, i am looking into the BFG allterrain and i was wondering how you liked them. I'm not sure wheather to go with those, or the nitto terra's. Any input from anyone would be great!! Thanks alot.
P.S Sorry about the numerous questions. I can't afford getting something wrong and not liking it!! I gotta hit a hole in one!! HAHA!

I didnt want to go with full out 35a but I was wondering what you thought would look better. The wider 33x12.50s nittos tgs on the stock 20s or the 285/65/20 bfg. Thanks for the advice. Oh yea ive already ordered an autospring 2" level kit. Thanks

The size Dog'em gave you is in metric, mostly. the first number 285 is how wide the tread is in millimeters so 285mm. The second number 65 is a percentage. It tells you how this your sidewall will be in millimeters. So for this size your sidewall will be 65% of your tread width (285). The last number 20 is of course the size of the rim cutout. This one is in inches.
So the way I figure out the size is by doing the following:
1. Convert the tread width to inches => 285mm = 11.22in
2. Determine the sidewall height by multiplying the tread width by the percentage (don't forget that 65% is equal to .65 when multiplying) => 11.22in x .65 = 7.293in.
3. Multiply that number by 2 because you have 2 sections of sidwall that make up your tire height (above and below the wheel) => 7.293in x 2 = 14.586in.
4. Add this number to the size of the rim diameter (20) => 14.586in + 20in = 34.586in.
So the metric size 285/65/20 should be equivalent to roughly a 34.5in tire.

I think they would work fine. There is a guy who goes by Nebraska on this site who is running stock rims and a 2" AS kit with the 325/65/20 (35x13) BFG tires and only has minor rubbing issues at full steering lock. Mine don't come close to rubbing even on angles or at full lock.

Man I hear ya on that, mods are too expensive to go by trial and error.
Russ10Screw did allot better job of addressing your question on tires than I could have. I just know mine are close to 34.5" tall by 11.4 wide. The Nittos I think are going to be 13" wide and a little too wide for stock rims, that's where the rubbing comes from. Before I started with the mods, I got some great advise from site experts like Wandell and others that tire diameter on a lifted truck is probably not as important as tire width and proper wheel backspace to avoid rubbing.
I am really sold on the BFG's, have run them for years on many different types of vehicles and they have never let me down.

Tires on 20s
Hey guys what do you think would look better. Ive narrowed it down to the nitto 305/55/20 or the bfg 285/65/20 on my stock 20s. In you guys opinion which tire do you think woud look best with my 2" AS spacer. I guess the question shorter wider or a little taller and narrower. Thanks for the help.
