Question Installing 2.5 lift kit & 35" tires, do i need to upgrade the gears???

This is on a 05 f150 4x4. Talked to the local big brand and saw i truck with 35 being installed on his truck, with a front level lit. Im just wondering if i need to change the gears and upgrade them. My buddy blew his tranny twice when he had 35 on his 02 f150 2x4. he also had a 6" lift, not sure if those mods contibuted to the blown trannys. I just want to know if i need to worry about it.

Please help me out on this one guys.

Thanks Chad

Don't worry about the gears. It may be a bit sluggish esp if you have the 4.6. My first setup was with the leveling kit and 35's and I didn't notice much difference at all. I have the 5.4 and the edge with the Rancho and a 3" body lift (7-8.5" of lift) with 37's and still have the stock 3.73 with no issues. I don't think the lift or tires had anything to do with your friend's tranny problems, it was more likely his driving style or ambitious off roading that did in the tranny. Only you know him; or maybe he just got a couple of sh#tty transmissions.

Good luck.

I'm running 35in BFGs on OEM wheels with factory gears ('04 4x4 w/5.4L) and while it's a little sluggish on the low end, it's fine. I wouldn't go bigger than 35s w/o re-gearing since I pull a boat.

When I installed the 35's yes it made it a little more sluggish. But no need to regear. So I just ordered and Edge it will keep that power back and then some.

I wouldn't worry about it too much at least for the time being.

I've been running the factory 3.73LS with 37s along with a Edge, Exhaust, and an Airaid Jr. with no problems.
