Suspension lift or body lift

I will say right now that I am a noob when it comes to lifts. I just recently bought a 2007 XLT SuperCrew 2WD and I want to get it lifted and get bigger tires. I don't know anything about lifts so be easy on me please I guess i'm just wondering the difference between the two lifts (suspension/body) Which is better. My truck will be 90% on road with only an occasional off road experience. I was thinking around a 6" lift. Not too sure though. What am I looking at for prices to buy and get installed. Tires too. I appreciate any help that ya'll can throw my way. If you could post some pics that would be great too. I really enjoy reading the posts on this site and I hope that you avid posters can help!

Congrats on the new truck.

Body Lift - $300 for the kit and $500-700 for installation - 3" of lift
Leveling Kit - $100 for the kit, easy to install - 1.5-2.5" of lift
Suspension Kit - $1300ish for entry level 6" lift - $400ish to install - 6" up to 12

I am having a body lift put on this weekend and i have a spacer. So for less than a $1000 i am getting 5.5" of lift. Of course there are downsides to this way. Search around the suspension and 2004-Present forums for discussions.

what size tires do you want to go to? like afguy said you can do fine with the level kit and body, without messing with the factory suspension. However many people including myself will tell you they dont like the look body lifts leave on the new generation f150, But if is definitly the best bang for your buck on the 2wd's.

It just depends on how high you want to go. A body lift just lifts the body off the frame 3 inches. THey are inexpensive compared to a suspension lift, but they take a lot of time to install which is why installation fees are so high with them, expecially on the 04-07's. If you can do the work yourself, a leveling kit and a body lift is a great value. If you have to pay someone to install both, you will probably be better off with a 6 inch suspension lift.

yes indeed the installation is costly on a body lift. iam getting mine done at the end of the month for 750$ even. wandell, on my 05, is there anything i need to prepare (take out of the truck) for before i take the truck to get it lifted?? i have a amp mounted to the back panel behind the rear seat and subs underneath the seat. i also have wires ran from the battery to the amp in the back. the wires are ran through the front firewall then down the sides of the truck where the plastic moldings are where you enter the truck. do these things need to come out?

Nooq, I'd start spraying the body mount bolts with penetrating oil. If there is mud caked everywhere I'd wash it off also. You may want to remove your subs and amp as the installers will have to pull your carpet up slightly and they may have to remove the rear seat as well as the back panel behind the seat. Also, make sure there is enough slack in the wiring. There should be since the battery will move up 3 inches with the body.

First off thanks for all the input...Like I said before I have no idea how big I want to go because i'm new to all of this. I found a pic on here awhile ago and I would love for my truck to look very similar to it. I forgot who the truck belonged to but here it is...And by the way, if this is your truck i'm sorry I stole the picture but I liked it so much...Thanks again guys...

Ford uses a ton of locktite on the body bolts and they can be a pain to get out. The penetrating oil will help. WD40 is ok, but something like PB Blaster would be better.

allrsdup,
Thanks for the input. So what am I looking at for prices for everything. The lift, tires, rims, install, and anything else I will need. Could you also give me a list of what I would all need. I would greatly appreciate it. BTW...your truck looks awesome!

Matt
