Back and forth back and forth

So, here is the whole story. I am wanting to increase the tire size on my 2001 F150 4X4 Screw w/5.4, I am going to 16X8 **** Cepek wheels and 315/75R16 Tires. I would like to fill up some of that wheel well space.
I was going to go with a PA body lift but decided to go with the Pro Comp 4" suspension lift.
I have seen a lot of members running the 6" Pro comp, but not many running a 4. Can you please post some pics of this set up. And how is it, off road and on. I do a fair amount of each.
Thanks ahead of time

You should really look into the 6inch fabtech its a great kit for on road and off, it actually rides better than my buddies 01 with a 3inch body lift with 315/75 r16's with his torsion bars cranked a little and the stance in the front is also a little wider than the procomp, but good luck with whatever lift you pick

the fabtech is far superior over the procomp but also look into the rancho & rcd brand lifts
also, procomp only makes a 4" lifts for 97-03 f150 4x4s

I would like to go with the 6 inch, but it is illegal in the state of Maine. I have been going back and forth a lot on what is and what isnt illegal. It seems like everyone you talk to has a different opinion of how the law should be interpreted.
I am in Iraq so i had my wife go to an inspection station and ask them what they would sticker. They said that they would not sticker a body lift, but that a 4 inch suspension lift is legal. So that is what i am going to go with.

Maine Legislature Title 29-A: MOTOR VEHICLES (HEADING: PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff))
Chapter 17: EQUIPMENT (HEADING: PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff))
Subchapter 1: GENERAL PROVISIONS (HEADING: PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff))

§1920. Vehicle frame height

1. Minimum and maximum frame end heights. A motor vehicle may not be operated on a public way or receive a certificate of inspection with a frame end height of less than 10 inches or with the frame end height lower than the vehicle was originally manufactured if originally manufactured to be less than 10 inches. A motor vehicle may not be operated on a public way or receive a certificate of inspection with a maximum frame end height based on the manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating that is greater than:

A. [2005, c. 276, §2 (rp).]

B. For a vehicle of 4,500 pounds and less, 24 inches in the front and 26 inches in the rear; [1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff).]

C. For a vehicle of 4,501 pounds to 7,500 pounds, 27 inches in the front and 29 inches in the rear; and [1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff).]

D. For a vehicle of 7,501 pounds to 10,000 pounds, 28 inches in the front and 30 inches in the rear. [1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 (new); Pt. B, §5 (aff).]

Measurements must be taken from a level surface to the bottom of the frame end. For the purposes of this subsection, "frame end" means the point at which the frame rail terminates at the bumper assembly.
[2005, c. 276, §2 (amd).]

2. Modifications. A vehicle may not be modified to cause, under normal operation, the vehicle body or chassis to come into contact with the ground, expose the fuel tank to damage from collision or cause the wheels to come in contact with the body. The suspension and tire sizes of a vehicle may be modified pursuant to this chapter and rules established by the Chief of the State Police.[2005, c. 276, §2 (amd).]

3. Suspension. Except as provided in this subsection or in subsection 2, an original suspension system may not be disconnected. This section does not prohibit the installation of heavy duty equipment, including shock absorbers and overload springs, or prohibit a person from operating on a public way a motor vehicle with normal wear of the suspension system if normal wear does not affect control of the vehicle.[2005, c. 276, §2 (amd).]

I just wanted to see what Maine DMV's web site stated relating to vehicle height. I really do not know the frame height for specific lift installations... BoB

There are always loopholes. Sounds like you could easily go with a 6 inch lift and then install you OEM tires for inspection so the frame will be closer to the ground. Also, keep in mind your truck has torsion bars, so your ride height is adjustable by an inch or so.

I have been trying to make heads and tails of that law. i agree that maine does suck for the lift laws, but hey we can still walk out with a hand gun the same day. I am not sure what i am going to do now. we have some great wheeling.
i already have the pro comp rims and the BFG AT sitting in the garage. all i want to do now is add on the lift when i get home. i am still in iraq and i want the lift to be sitting there ready to be thrown on.

thanks for all the help guys. if anyone can or knows anyone who might be able to interpret the law i would appreciate it.

thanks

I live in maine as well. I have heard of a new law the government just passed the 15th of december making it legal to lift a vehicle 4 inches and go up 2 or 3 tire sizes the best bet is to talk to someone from BMV. I think it is the traffic devision. Or even a state trooper. I havent measured my new truck but the previous law stated that you could lift your truck acording to weight range of the vehicle. Let me know if you find out.
