Skyjacker 3" w/ 33's and 20's...
Alright, need some help/ideas/opinions. I posted before that I was going to level my truck with bilstein shocks, but instead, my fiance got me a skyjacker 3" lift complete with the nitrogen shocks for the rear. I have done a lot of searching and reading on here with mixed opinions and reviews of this lift.
I understand the akward angles and all, but has anyone had anything actually break or go wrong while running this lift? I really don't want to send it back, and it's already laying here so I really want to install it, espically since i'm going to run the 20x10 Moto Metal 951 Chrome wheels with 4.75" of backspacing and 33x12.50x20 Mud Grapplers. I think the 3" would clear that setup, correct?
Any help, pictures, opinions, or anything is greatly appreciated.
Merry Xmas :santa:

the wheels and tires sound good to me, but i"m sorry i have heard bad things about the 3" skyjacker lift. it essentially does the same as a leveling kit in the front as it does not lower your front diff to help with the angles of the front axles. you'll have premature ball joint and your front axles wont last too long either.
I had the skyjacker 3" on my 05 reg cab F-150 before I traded for my 06. Lift looked good with my 33" procomps but the ride was awful to say the least. The angles on the upper a-arms were crazy steep and sometimes hit the coils on big dips(could see red paint on them from the coils). I'm saving for a
6" lift now. I'd suggest you do the same if you can possibly get your money back for your skyjacker. I never had anything break but then again it was only on for about 8k mi before I traded the truck in.

Well I figured I would go ahead and run the kit....I figure they wouldn't sell it if it was as bad as some people say, plus I have seen several reviews where people have ran it for over 20k miles without issue. Besides if it does the samething as the 2.5 spacer kits then what's another 1/2 inch? Besides I think I'll need it with the 33's on 20's. Of coarse I'll get pic's and all up when I get it done.
Why not just do the 2.5 spacer and run the 33's with no problem. Soemtimes these lifts say 3" but they actually yield a little more lift. I was in the same boat a month ago and I have heard nothing but bad about the 3 inch lift alot of ball joint problems and wear . I have a 07 didnt want to deal with that. I just wanted to run my 33 terras which I did and they fit perfect with the 2.5 . If I want to go any bigger I am just gonna go with the 6 inch fabtech and 35's. I would return it and just get spacers just my .02.
But will it fit with the spacers?
Here's what the plan is:
20X10 Moto Metal 951 - -18mm offset w/ 4.79" backspace
33x12.50x20 Nitto Mud Grapplers
The skyjacker kit comes with a add-a-leaf in the rear with new shocks, and a new coilover/strut in the front. Will the spacer with a add-a-leaf and new shocks get me enough to clear?

I think the only problem you will have is the wheels. 4.79 inches is not much backspacing on a 10 inch wheel. That wheel is gonna stick out almost 3 1/2 inches farther than your OEM wheel. If it had 6 inches of backspacing, you would be fine with a 2 or 2.5 inch leveling kit. I say this because one member here is running 325/60-18's (33x13.00) on 18x10 Mickey Thompson wheels (6 inches of backspacing) with a leveling kit.

I don't mind the tires sticking out past the fenders some. The only issues I really worry about is rubbing. If it takes the 3" kit to clear the tires without rubbing then that's the route I'll go.
In the mean time I will do alittle search and see if I can find any other 20" wheels I like with better backspacing.

I'll see if I can find a 951 with 6" of backspacing, but so far 4.79" is the best I can find. Is the backspacing going to cause rubbing issues or will they just stick out 2-3 inches past the fenders?
Alright, thanks so much for the help Wandell!
I got to looking around and found the Moto Metal 951 20X9 chrome weels. They have a +33mm offset and 6.18" of backspace. They even come with a better price tag then the 20x10's. But to get to the important stuff, how will the they fit with the lift kit.
20x9 Moto Metal 951 Chrome +33mm w/ 6.18"(backspace)
33x12.50x20 Mud Grappler
I'll probaly go ahead and use the 3" kit since my fiance got it for me. But would a 2.5 leveling kit and add-a-leaf in the rear run with this tire/wheel combo?

Yes, you can fit that tire and wheel combo with either a leveling kit or the Skyjacker 3 inch lift. The 10 inch wide wheels with 4.7 inches of backspacing would have caused rubbing problems more than likely. They probably would have rubbed on the rear of the wheelwells. I think you will be much better off with the 9 inch wide wheels with 6 inches of backspacing from both a looks and fitment standpoint.
Quick question for Wandell.....I have seen several guys running 35's on oem wheels with the 2.5" leveling kit. Could the 35's fit the 20x9's with the 6.18" of backspace? Or would they rub really bad on the upper control arm? I noticed that some of the guys were mentioning some rub on the control arm with the stock wheels.
Just checking mostly, I haven't heard of anyone running 35's on aftermarket wheels with the 2.5" or 3" kits.
Also before I forget, what is included with the pro comp kit that is being sold for under $1100? How did they get a 6" kit down to that price compared to most others that are upwards of 2k?

I really don't know about 35's with that wheel. I havn't seen anyone try that combo with a leveling kit. I would bet there would be some rubbing.
As for the Pro Comp kit, they are able to keep the price down by using the OEM coilover front shocks with a special 6 inch spacer. They offer an adjustable heavy duty coilover shock as an option.
