what size tires on a 6" lift and 18" wheels.

i have a 05 f-150 w/ a 6" procomp lift. will a 35" tire on a 18 x 9" wheel work with my setup? Iam rolling on a 35" tire right now but with 17" wheels. by upping the wheel size to a 18" wheel cause any rubbing issues?

also if someone can answer a question, iam sorda new when it comes to wheels.

what width and offset of a wheel do you recommend on a truck like mine? i would like to keep that look where the wheels and tires stick out farther. also what 35" tire size do you recomend on a 18 x 9" wheel (35x12.50 or what???) thank you.

I'd recommend a 18x9 wheel with a 325/65-18 (33x13.00) tire. As for backspacing, I normally recommend 5.5 or 6 inches of backspacing as an attempt to get the tires and wheels pretty much even with the edge of the fenders. If you want them to stick out, go with an 18x9 wheel with 4.5 or 5 inches of backspacing.

Nooq, I have 18x9 wheels with 5" inches of B/S and 325/65/18's with a Rancho 4" lift. They are 35" inch tires not 33's (sorry Wandell) 33" inchers would be 325/60/18's. Yes mine do stick out quite a bit but I had a hard time finding the same size rim with 5.5-6.0 inches of back spacing. The tires would not clear at all with a leveling kit, and I still had to trim the valance a tad with the lift. I am assuming with a 6" Procomp you should not have any rubbing issues at all. Have a look at my gallery to see what I mean about the tires sticking out.

Sorry for the typo, 325/65-18's are about 35 inches tall.

Question - what is back spacing?

Hi guys,

New at this also. Can you please explain backspacing. I'd like to be able to assess tire/rim size too, but lack the knowledge about the correlation of all the details. Anything concise that I could read to bone up?

Am i missing something? A 35" tire on a 17" rim is the same size as a 35" on a 18" rim.

According to paperwork, you can fit any 35x12.50 with that 6" lift kit, so you're good on that.

what is backspacing? backspacing is the distance (usuallly in inches) from the mounting point of the rim to the inner lip of the rim. it's a hard concept to explain, so here are some diagrams that might help you out.

I have a 6" PC lift on my 04 Screw. In the summer I run a Toyo 35x13x18 AT on a 18x9 rim with 5" backspacing. No rubbing with this combo but does stick out a small amount, about 1" rear and 1.5" front.
In the winter I run a Toyo 35x12.5x18 MT on the stock 18x7.5 rim. I only needed to grind away about a 2"x2" x 3/16 deep on the PC supplied steering knuckle, directly under the Toyo tire side lugs to prevent contact rubbing. I only needed to do this on the driver side I might add. The steering knuckle is more than 2"x2" thick in that area, so removing a layer 3/16" is not going to compromise strength. Remember a tire wider that 12.5" on the stock rim is too wide. 12.5" is max and no problems will be encountered.
PC said I could not use the stock rim with a 5.5" backspace. A good grinder and 5 minutes is all it took to fix that. The tires do not stick out with this combo.
