E350 Van question

Definately not a 4x4! My wife's van (we have 6 kiddies) is the big ol 15 psgr, V10. Steering started to go sloppy and I ended up replacing the entire tie rod ***'y. Now steering is sort of tighter, but it feels like it is sitting on the center of a ball. Steering is good straight on, but slight movement to left or right and it feels like it is "slipping' off the ball. Also when you make a turn, the wheel doen'st want to return to center. Sort of feels like it is being slightly held in its off-center position.

Very hard to get to the steering gear box. The ABS box is right on top (thanks Ford).

Anyhow, just trying to diagnose how to get the smoothness back. is it tie rod adjustment? Steering Gear? Not enough sleep? Any ideas?

thanks for your help,

John
