Cranking torison bars...

What are the pros and cons? Is there anything important I should know? Does this put more wear on certain parts? I just want to level out my 00 4x4 before I get the new rims and tires . Thanks for the help.

The negatives are usually associtated with putting too much preload on the bars. If you go too far you put your CV and ball joints at extreme angles which leads to premature wear. Usually, it's hard to go too far with the OEM adjustment keys on a truck, but each one is different. Increasing the preload on the torsion bars also makes the initial portion of the suspension's travel slightly stiffer. Some people love this, some hate it.

Thanks Wandell. All I'm really looking to do is level the truck out, which wouldn't take much. So going by what you said, I really shouldn't see any major wear or stress since I'm not increasing the preload by much?

Anybody who has their torsion bars cranked tell me what you think? Thanks.

Also, if anyone could tell me how to make the sig always appear after your posts. I only see the box that you have to check to get it to appear. Also, how do you add a pic to the sig?

Mine are cranked up, I had them 3.5 and wore out the cv joints, so i lowered it to 2.5" and put new cv joints on and havent had a problem for 50 k miles.

So would you guys recomend this as a cheap way to level the truck out? I just want it level enough to prevent any clearance issues when I get the new rims and tires on...

All the leveling kits for our trucks are just reindexed torsion bar keys. They do the same thing as cranking up the torsion bars with the OEM keys, they just allow you to put way too much preload on the torsion bars. Take all of the negatives I listed and multiply them and that is what you will wind up with.

Ghetto - one of the senior members from aways back, Daveman, wrote up a nice little tutorial on this. (don't think Daveman visits here anymore though)

Here's a link to his thread
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...t=torsion+bars

And here's a link to the pdf he created with step-by-step

I leveled out my 2002 King Ranch 4x4 Supercrew back when I bought it - no issues 60K later.....
