New to Trucks- Lift Kit

Hey guys. I'm new to the world of trucks. I have driven Mustang GTs for the past 10 years and I bought an '06 F150 SuperCab FX4 back in July. I'm considering a lift kit but I don't know anything about them just yet. The main things I'm looking at are quality and price. I was considering a 6" kit. What would I be looking at for the kit? How much for installation if I let someone else install it? Is it worth the money? Thanks.

Well, the first big question is going to be, How do you use your truck??
If you aren't an avid off-roader, there is no reason to spend a ton of money on the most technically advanced/bulletproof ($$$$) lift, if you are going for a look more than anything else, there are multiple options, let us know.

Hey. I'll be doing very little off roading. It'll be once in a blue moon and mainly mud with no major inclines. I'm going after the looks factor more than anything else. The truck only has 6K miles on it and I'm already itching for a taller ride..ha! I don't think I can ever go back to a Mustang ever again. I'm hooked on this truck. Thanks for any input.

well i am an avid supporter of rize industries, since that is what i have am very particular about my trucks. the looks and quality are great. they come in 6 and 8" i have the 8" www.rizeind.com

u can also go with either fabtech or procomp, each come with or without new offroad adjustable coilovers. both are cheaper then rize.

Thanks for the info. What would I be looking at price wise for the kit then for the installation. I don't think I'm mechanically inclined enough to do it myself...ha.

I'd suggest the 6 inch Rize, Fabtech or RCD lift with some 35 inch tires.

Just out of curiosity guys, but why push the more expensive lifts on a guy who is not going to need it in an off-roading environment? I know that Superlift and other kits are very well engineered, while not being quite as heavy duty, they will more than serve his function for a LOT less money. I do have to say that the Rize kit is awsome looking, but for simply trying to gain height, it seems a bit unnecessary to spend that $$.

Well he asked for suggestions, so we recommended the best kits available. Of course it is up to him to make the final decision. I don't think there is anything wrong with any of the kits from any of the major suspension companies, I just feel the Rize, Fabtech and RCD are a little better. If you shop around, you may find the most expensive kit at the same (or nearly) price as the least expensive.

Dude, I was in the exact same situation as you...I've driven stangs ever since i was 16....this is my first truck and have had it for a short time....

I went with the Pro Comp coil over kit with mx6 adjustables and am TOTALLY happy with the ride of it....I too was not planning on doing much offroading but opted for the coil overs as I think they look MUCH better......Now i do have the bug for offroading and am thankfull to have gotten them (may happen to you too)...

Another thing, I was happy with the adjustable rear shocks....From cruising down the highway with no load to towing my motorcycle and stang at the same time for a couple thousand miles, I found the adjustability made a big difference in ride comfort....

hope this helps!!

Yeah, understand we are sort of nitpicking. We are not saying this kit is great and all the rest are crap. We are lucky enough to live in an age where there are a lot of quality parts to choose from.

Recently added a lift to my 2wd f150

The 7.5 inch Fabtech lift I added is pretty darn cool. I'm very pleased.

here's a link if you want to see it
