suspenion confusion
I have a stock 2000 f-150 4x4 with 91k miles and I plan on keeping it for a longtime. I want to level my truck but I can't find a kit to raise the front so can I lower the rear by removing the stock blocks. the only problem I see is that I will not have a bump stop. can this be done.
longer shackles will lower it cranking torison bars up to much will put more stress on cv joints and make them wear out faster and also requires a front wheel alinment more cost and time in evolded in torison bars
Yes a front alignment is required. My cv shafts wore out in about 15k miles because I cranked them ALL the way up. I Got about 3.5" of lift. I turned them down to only 2.5" of lift and put new cv shafts on them, and now ive ran about 40k miles and the shafts show no wear at all.
I leveled my 2000 by adjusting the torsion bar bolts. 40,000 miles later (with just over 50k on it) it needed lower ball joints and an idler arm. However, it's been my experience that those parts are necessary about every 50,000 miles on every Ford IFS I've ever owned. I attribute it to the lovely roads around Detroit, combined with a few off-road excursions periodically.

Forgot to mention... when I did mine, I took it to the alignment shop just to be safe. They threw it on the rack, and everything was still well within spec. No adjustment was necessary.
