Towing

Hey guy's, wondering how many of you use your rig's for towing? The engines are totally killer for towing but was interested to see what the hard core towers are doing to their chassis to make for a nicer pull. The stock shocks are the first things to go, so what have you replaced them with? Any airbag stories? I regularly pull 6500-7000 lbs and wanted to find out what the rest of the guy's do who don't step up to a Super Duty.
Thanks,

Only thing I have is my adjustable pro comp MX6's in the rear that came with my lift, turn the dial all the way up to the firmest....she tows like a dream, made several trips through the rockies and san jacinto mountains like this (with the stang and bike)....although I'm upgrading to a blower because she's a little sluggish pulling my 40ft fountain.....

this is my common tow though.....

Nice setup! Thanks for the feedback, that's what I'm looking for some real world towing experiance. A 40ft Fountain? I'm thinking a Super Duty is in your future...
Pro Comp MX6, hmmm...
Thanks

I regularly tow a boat... but fully loaded it only runs up to 3,000 lbs.

I am in the market for a travel trailer and I am looking at the ultra lights that have an unloaded weight of 4,000 or so and a GVW of 6,000. I think this is a max for my comfort level although I know people who use their rig to tow more.

7,000lb Baja boat/trailer/gear here.
Tow it with my Expy through the desert.

Useful features IMHO:
- Supercharger
- Shorter rear gears (I run 4.10 with 285/60R16 tires)
- My factory load-leveling rear suspension is great (airbags in back)
- Tranny cooler
- Bilstein shocks
- Limited-slip rear diff for slick boat ramps

I tow a 30' travel trailer, approx. 6000lbs. My truck is a leveled 2" in the front 2006 KR screw 4X4 w/ 34" tires, I added firestone airbags to the back, set them at 35 psi. while towing the trailer, with a 4" drop hitch both truck and trailer are level. It tows good, I don't use overdrive if any hills or if high winds are around, I can pull it at 65 mph at around 2600 rpm, it gets 8 miles per gallon like this in light hills. I also use a prodigy brake contoller which is awesome. The mirrors are junk in traffic with a travel trailer, I may invest in some slide on towing mirrors.

Not bad for my occasional towing, if you are a hard core travel trailer person, the F150 is not for you, go with an F250.

The trailer is a traillight trail cruiser, which is a decent trailer for the money I guess, My employer owns it and I work out of it for about 20 days at a time and it's okay for that.
