ball joint installation

1999 F150 4WD,
I need to replace the upper and lower ball joints ( 95K miles) and I am trying to figure out if I can replace the upper ball joints without having to replace the entire A-frame/control arm.
the associated threads have pointed me in both directions so I am a little confused since I haven't ever installed ball joints.
any tips, techniques, suggestions are otherwise are gladly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
jt

If the upper's have never been changed before you will need to replace the entire control arm. The lowers are replaceable.

Tips -- Get a pickle fork for removal. Lowers will need to be pressed out and then back in. Upper's will be cake if you replace the control arm.

if you have the stock upper ball joints you will need to replace the whole A-arm.
you should also get the 4 cam bolts and washers when you replace them so its easier to do the alignment.

do a quick search here and you will see a bunch of tips and tools to use.
