Buying new F150, need advice for modifying

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing the 06 F150 SuperCab FX4 4x4 (Shadow Grey) and am wanting to make it look mean & aggressive. I'm looking for advice, or maybe if you did something similar, what would you have done differently.

I want to lift it (not sure how high, 6-9") with the appropriate size tires (35-37") for not having to do much trimming. I'm also wanting to have a bulky grille guard (or bush guard, bull guard...didn't realise there were different names). My driving habits are 60% City, 35% highway, 5% Offroading/trail driving, with 50% of all of it during winter months (I live in Canada, snow sucks). For this, I mostly want a bit of knowledge before I go into my local shop.

I also want the truck to have a mean & rumbling sound. Can I acheive this with just a new muffler or at what level would I need to get?

I'm also thinking about getting some art work done on the truck. I found at www.speedgraphics.net something that looked alright, the Amazing Tears, Black graphic....but was wondering if anyone else had something put on theirs. How does the vinyl art work on a vehicle? Do they glue on or something?

How tall are the stock tires? 29"? Knowing this I hope to have a good idea of the total lift I would gain with bigger tires and suspension lift.

Thanks in advance!!!

make sure you regear. 4.56 will be great for 35's if you are driving around town as much as you say you are

You found a good place to start looking. Just take a look at the different trucks here and decide on what you want. Remember, the taller you go, the more it cost. I would suggest that you look at an all terrian tire with the driving habits you described.

yea, what wandell said.

I know that the bfg all terrains and the pro comp all terrains are extreme weather rated, meaning that you will be allowed to drive without chains even when they require them.

Plus i think they look pretty wicked too.

good luck.

hmm, i really like the look of the 8" lift with 37" tires from allrsdup's picture. While cost is a consideration, it will not have too much of an impact on the way I want to have the truck.

Thanks for the muffler suggestion, I will take a look into it.

Any opinions on the speedgraphics.net products? has anyone installed them, and is it fairly easy?

Also, I know there are a few companies that supply lift kits, for the height I'm looking at, are there a couple that would be better for the job? Please keep in mind my driving habits, but I want a slightly higher quality then 'best bang for buck'.

Thanks again!

If you want to go over 6 inches, I'd go with the Rize kit. Their lifts look awesome and are getting rave reviews from magazines and a couple of members here.

I don't have a garage ( which obviously i'll be looking at a good alarm).

I really like your grille guard. Can you post a side & angled pic of your truck so I can see a couple views on the guard? Also what brand & model it is.

I've been looking at a few in catalogues, and can't just picture it in my mind on a truck. I want something big, but not too crazy in front of the headlights....if that made any sense.

Hey guys, don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm also new to the f-150 world. Quick question for you bgoff: what size tires do you have on your ride? Also, how's the Rancho lift handle? I used to have Rancho's on my Jeep Wrangler and HATED them as they were WAY too stiff. But after riding in an FX4, they seem to work pretty well on the F-150.

You can PM me or email me directly so I don't hijack this thread.

Gracias!

Hey Rowdy Moose....They are 35x12.5x18 BGF MTs. I like them on the ford wheel and that is the only one I found to fit the 18x7.5 size. The Rancho handles fine. I got the adjustable shocks so you just twist what you are on for the road. THe only thing I do not like is they use the Ford coil spring which does not support my winch very well so I put in some twist in spacers to make it sit level. Next truck will have a lift with the coilover option.

Those adjustable shocks were the same ones that I had in my old Jeep! The Rancho 9000X's correct? Maybe they are designed for heavier vehicles, but I DID NOT like them in the Jeep. However, like I mentioned above, ppl seem to love them in the Fords. Do you have the in cab remote for the shocks? You also mentioned that you don't like the fact that you had to reuse the stock springs. Can you not upgrade the springs? (that might sound like a stupid question, but I'm a complete NEWB when it comes to these trucks...been around Jeeps for the past 8 years) Or are the upgraded springs just too expensive?

Also, if you happen to know, or if you get a chance, could you measure the tallest point on your truck to the ground? I'm curious how tall an F-150 with 35's and a 4" lift is going to be.
