Raising Torsion Bars

I was talking to my brother in law, who is a successful mechanic, about getting a 2 1/2" leveling kit. He told me that it is a waste of money and he can just raise the torsion bars up a little and have the same effect. He said the only differnce i will notice is it may ride a little rougher. Has anyone else done this on their truck? I'm pretty sure it can be done. Most of my family are Chevy fans, and he has leveled a few of their trucks this way, and they don't complain, but I would like a Ford truck perspective. Thanks for the help.

unless your 04 is a heritage model (old body style) then you dont have torsion bars and you will have to get a spacer to lift the front end, good luck

It's not a heritage, but that is kind of what I suspected. I have never heard of anyone doing this on a ford and those leveling kits are everywhere. Thanks for the info.

The 97-03 F-150 4x4's had torsion bars like the 88-06 Chevy 4x4's. Ford changed to a coilover shock system in 2004.
