Harsh ride.....

Hey folks, been a while since I've posted much, but lately I've been noticing that my truck's ride quality has become very harsh, and hard-hitting, I dunno if it's just the crappy roads in NE Wisconsin or what....The truck doesn't float/bounce as if the shocks were bad but just every bump feels like I'm riding on wagon wheels...just had a 80k checkup and they didn't say anything was bad except for a little play in the ball joints.

anythoughts? much appreciated.

With those miles, if the shocks have not been changed, I would say it is time.

shocks were replaced with Rancho RSX's, oh around 40-50k ago, although they could be going bad w/ that many miles as well....

hey folks,

well about a month ago, i went through the truck and replace the upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rods & adjustment sleeves, pitman arm & idler arm.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the truck is riding so harsh over normal road bumps, etc....I brought it in for another alignment today (notice some tire wear and slight pull), and the customer van driving me home drove better going over the same road.

just normal cracks, separations in the road cause my truck to sound like the whole thing is going to fall out from under me. I don't know if it's just things like the bushings on the shocks drying out and shrinking, the anti rattle bracket in the brake calipers, or something worse.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Air Presher

I had the same problem. The deal was I bought new 285-70-17 toyo tires that said 55 psi on them but my truck is rated for 35 psi, So with the air presher at 55 psi my truck road like I had rock wheels.. lowerd the tire presher to 39 (happy medium) and it so much better. Hope this helps..
PS: Look inside your driver door it will tell you what tire psi is for your truck..

the sidewall PSI rating is the maximum it should be at while hot and under a load. You should never pump tires up that high. Id set them around 32 front and 35-38 rear.

The number on the tire is the max pressure at COLD inflation for the maximum load carrying of that tire. Also it depends on the type of tire for what pressure you use. Using to low a pressure on an tire is a good way to destroy the tire and cause an accident. When underinflated tires heat and can have tread separation.
32 would be too low for an LT load range C, which is what this tire sounds like with a max pressure of 55. 338-40 sounds about right without looking up all the numbers on load carrying ability. If it were load range D or E it would be higher.

As for Buckfu, when you went in for work, did they change the tire pressure?

How many miles on the tires. The ride will become considerably harsher as tires wear. I just replaced mine and the diference is amazing. I had forgotten how much better new tires ride.
