Rear spring issue?
Rear spring issue?
I have an 05 4x4 supcab stx with 4.6 and auto trans. It also has the tow package. On to the issue....
I had to put a full pallet of dry not rain soaked sod in the bed.It was in the bed for about 3 hours. The truck was not on the bump stops but it was close.
After the sod was removed the truck now sits about 2-3 inches lower in the rear than it did before.I have made no changes to the rear end in any way as far as mods and such. Will it come back to the normal height given time?Did I kill the springs? The guy at the sod farm said the sod on the pallet weighs in between
900 to 1300 pounds. He said the drier the sod the less it weighs and mine was almost too dry.If my springs are toast what can I replace them with that can take more of a pounding with out tons of sag?At this point its been 3 days and the sag has not gotten any better. The truck only has 7000 miles so I could try to scam the dealer out of some springs but I dought that would work.I had an 01 ranger that had about 3 inchs of sag with out any help from me at 10000 miles and they would not replace them so I dont think that will work.I hope I dont need $1000 worth of new HD springs.....I guess my next truck will need to be a F250.....

Hey,
I'm not sure if this helps you or not, but I have a '00 f150 extended cab short box 4x4, with the 4.6 v8 in it. Point being, I can comfortably carry a 1700lb 8ft camper with no spring issues after I remove the camper. I would suggest maybe checking you'r vehicle's GVW to see if perhaps you have a light duty half ton. If thats the case, you may have exceeded its capacity and you might be SOL when it comes to replacing the leafs.
I would think that irregardless of you gvw that your truck should be able to carry 1000lbs. the gap between my gvw and my actual vehicle weight is about 2100lbs.
Again, not sure if this helps, but good luck anyway. another thing to consider is that the sod farmer probably has no clue what the real weight of the stuff is, and you may well have been carrying around a lot more weight than you thought.
