Rough Ride question...
Rough Ride question...
Hey guys,
Just wanted to throw this out there to solicit ideas on what would cause this:
My 99 F150XLT has a really rough ride. After new shocks (Monroe-Matic Plus), and new tires (Goodyear A/T's), the ride still feels rough (a bit smoother though, could be better).
I am the 3d owner of this truck, am not sure if either of the previous owners did anything to the suspension.
Is there anything that would improve the ride?
Just curious, any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!

Believe it or not, one of the big things that affects how harshly a vehicle rides is actually the suspension bushings. Yes, stiff springs or shocks can do it too, but bushings have a ton to do with it. The stock / factory suspension comes with a pretty decent compromise of all of these components. It's tough to tell if somebody swapped springs, shocks you've changed, and bushings (unless they're polyurethane) should be stock. The shocks you noted are not anything wildly harsh.
So what's the easiest thing to check / change? Air pressure in your tires. I went from 35 PSI (in my 20's) to 32 PSI and saw a world of difference. Don't go much below that though. Remember, it is a truck and it will never carry what a truck should and still ride like a car.
