Squeaking rear suspension...

Hi All,

I'm new to the site. Recently bought a 99 F150 Lariat Flareside in December. Great truck but has a few issues. Main one is a terrible squeaking from the rear suspension. Mechanics haven't been able to give me the proper name or part number for what needs to be fixed. I believe its a bushing or rubber that has worn out. Anyone familiar with this problem?

i had the same problem in the front of my 97 2wd f-150, every time i turned or jumped up and down on the truck it would squek. i thought it was maybe some worn out ruber bushings or stops, but one day my friend's dad got under there while i rocked the truck and sprayed a little grease were he thought he heard it, and i've had no probkems since. so just do a little lubricating first.

Thanks for that. I actually tried lubrication already..that was my mechanics temporary solution. And temporary it was...lasted about three days. I'll have to let him take a closer look....

the friction pads ( whatever they are called) between the leaf springs may be worn out?

Yes...that's the problem...but no one can tell me what those pads are actually called. And the parts guys and even a Ford dealer don't have a clue. Anyone know?

Talking

ifound what they are called, there "nylon glide pads" i searched the internet some for replacement pads or leaf springs and all i could find were replacement leaf spring kits for lifted trucks, but if you look harder or ask your dealership then they may know since you have the name of them know. you might just, on the other hand, buy the 2-3" lift replacement springs and, if your truck is a 2wd, then do a 3" spindle lift in the front with maybe a little T-bar cranking to level it. without new shocks it would all cost around 300-400$ if you shop around, not much more than parts and labor on trying to locate a new pair of "nylon glide pads" but it's all just a suggestion.

Thanks. That was very helpful. I'll check with a dealer to see if they have the glide pads. One dealer told me that the insulators or pads or whatever they are referred to aren't sold seperately but rather come as part of the leaf spring assembly. If all else fails I think I will just replace the springs..about $120 bucks each. We'll see...thanks again for your hepl.

squeeking

what I do is lift rear of vehicle enough to let rear suspension sag, use a wedge device, wood door stop works
well, and spread leafs apart enough to apply grease to those white spring pads, go to the ford dealer and get a tube of power window regulator grease, white and sticky, this is what i have found works the best, should take care of the squeek, the other thing we see a lot is the actual leaf
spring bushings causing squeek, try the grease first, works 90% of the time
