The only reason I might worry about the suspension is if you were towing this trailer 24/7, as in a full time job.

But this is probably more of a free time/weekend job, and your truck can handle the 1000 lbs or so that all your equipment + trailer weighs once a week without causing any problems.

But, if the parents are making you do it, not much you can do about it I suppose.

[QUOTE=f-150sport03]Well, it's for my lawn mowing "service". I have to pay for anything that messes up and all maintenance, etc. now because there is supposedly extra wear and tear on the vehicle and mower. So putting a hitch on will be out of my pocket. Putting in a bedliner...my pocket. Pulling a trailer...my pocket. Same for suspension...

Keep your receipts for all that stuff. You should be able to write that stuff off on your taxes since this is for a job. My opinion is your truck will do fine towing some lawn mowers, I can't imagine it putting any real stress on a half ton suspension. I too have a Sport truck with the V-6 and even when it was stock it towed very well I think with that 3.55LS rear it comes with. Infact if you look in your manual our truck is actually rated to tow more then a 4.6 V8 with non LS. It's not much but still, the V-6 with LS is not bad for towing IMO.

Any other mods to the suspension that I would need to do? I don't need heavy duty by any means, but I would like to rest assured that pulling this little flatbed trailer will not hurt anything.

Thanks ahead of time for your input/advise.
Kinda silly to upgrade the suspension if all you're doing is towing a 5x10 landscape trailer with a few mowers. I think the base model F150 w/V6 has a rated tow capacity of 2500# or so, and that's probably because of the size of the engine. I used a V6 Nissan Pathfinder to pull trailers for years and it's only rated for 3500#. Pulled 4,000-5,000# all the time. My biggest worry was the transmission and brakes, never the suspension. Your trailer tongue weight will probably never exceed 200#, so your suspension will never be stressed. You *are* using a Class III receiver hitch, aren't you? I hope you're not towing with a bumper...

So print out the specs on the stock tow capacity of your truck and come up with a reasonable estimate of the weight of your loaded trailer. If your loaded trailer is less than the rated capacity, then take your folks down to the dealer with that information in hand and have them talk to a Service Advisor or mechanic about the subject.

Why don't they want you to upgrade your brakes and engine along with the suspension?

This is bordering on the absurd...

Just go to autozone and spend $30 on a set of cheap helper springs. They say it will add up to 1,000lbs, which is a lie, but will look good on paper for the folks.
