05 Screw 4x2 - Which drop???
05 Screw 4x2 - Which drop???
Debating on which drop to get 2/3, 2/4, 3/5 ???
Now I know everyone's application is different but I plan on getting 24's roughly 2" taller than my stock sized wheel/tire combo, plan to tow a boat occationally, and ride quality is somewhat of an issue(daily driver).
If I go with the 2/3, I'll have elimiated the wheel gap, still have the rake, but don't think I'll have that lowered look.
Verses:
3/5 will really bring it down but then I'll run into issues of hitting bumpstops and possible rubbing.
Regaurdless of choice I am installing a airlift kit for the rear leafs to combat the hauling/towing issues, but personally I'm leaning toward a 3/5 drop to get rid of the rake and eliminate the wheel gap.
If anyone can chime in and make some suggestions as to which one to get and cheapest place to get it at would be great.
Thanks for all the help
Andy
P.S. Also trying to keep the kit under $800-$1000.

I had a 3.5/5 from DJM on my last truck(04 lariat supercrew) didn't have any problems, My only complaint was the kit didn't come with the pinion angle kit. I had to buy it seperate.
Going to get the same kit for the truck I have now(04 Supercrew XLT)

Get the Ground Force 2/4 kit. The truck will sit perfectly level, ride similarly to stock (It will be a bit stiffer and surely handle WAAAAY better), and if you need to tow anything really heavy you will still be able to add a cheap Firestone-style air bag assist system for under $300. I prefer the ride of my 2/5 lowered truck (rides rougher than the 2/4 BTW) over my Dad's stock same year, same style truck anyday. It is a bit bumpier, but the responsiveness and handling are almost too good to be true for a truck this big.
Not to mention the Ground Force kits themselves are well priced, and come absolutely complete. Their customer service is second to none, if you have any issues they will literally go as far as to coming out to literally look at your truck at your house. Who does that anymore?

I will second the ground force 2/4 kit it is a very thought out kit. Bilstein front struts, front coils, ground force rear gas shocks, rear leafsprings, carier bearing relocate kit and a shim to instal under the tranny mount. I have had absolutely no problems what so ever with this kit and I love it. I just added a Hellwig rear sway bar and that makes even more of an improvement. Now the 2/4 will not level the truck out you will have a 1" rake. I tow a 5500lb boat/trailer combo and the rear drops maybe 3/4" after I am all hitched up and I have yet to hit the bumb stops(saves me from buying airbag kit). I picked up my kit for 1100 through a locale dealer that matched summit racing's price. My kit # isthe 9944. Hope this helps.
I just had the Ground Force 9933 (2/5) put on yesterday and will agree the handling has definitely improved. When I turn into a parking lot I can totally feel the difference. I'm still getting used to the new feeling while driving and the different look of the truck, but personally I might have been happier with a 2/4 drop as I'm not to sure about the look of the rear sitting an inch lower at the moment. Of course, I sure wasn't looking to drop another $400+ for that inch!
I haven't replaced my wheels yet so we'll see how things play out when I do and if I feel any differently then.

I have a 2/4 McGaughy's kit w/20" wheels on an '05 Supercrew. It came with new coils and rear leaf springs and sits level with about 2 1/2" clearance between the top of the tire and wheel well. I love the look, but the rear bottoms out on big bumps or when I tow.
I occassionally tow a boat (3500#) and an enclosed car hauler (7500#) and would definitely recommend the air bags for any kind of towing. The rear tires rub the sidewalls when I tow and I've cut all 4 tires! (At least they all match now)
My kit used the stock shocks, but if I did it over, I would upgrade to better shocks from the start. In fact, any feedback on what shocks work well with this combination would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, if ride quality and towing are important you might want to reconsider the 24" tires, just my $.02.

Oh, and Ground Force is releasing some "Air Bag Shock" very soon that can be used for the rear for those that tow. I actually got a pair of the prototypes for letting them use my truck at Truck Fest, but I have not had a chance to install them yet. I'll let everyone know how they work once they are on.
As for needing shocks, Ground Force makes a great in-house shock.

Call McGaughys and get their F150 rear air helper bags for when you tow. It is designed for the suspension you have and runs between $250-$275
Replacing the rear shocks would cost $100 less but would be a waste considering the alternative. I talked with them last month for a friend.
