lift for f150
lift for f150
Just bought a new 06 f150 extended cab 4x4, and want to get a lift kit, not too big cause I still want to be able to work out of it easily, and still want it to drive nicely as well. I was thinking that a four inch lift would be the most practical. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes 4in lifts for my truck? I've been searching the internet for a bit, and most lift kits I find are for earlier models. It also seems like these lift kits are really expensive like $1500-$2k is this typical or am I looking at something that I don't need, maybe something specifically for heavy off roading, not looking to do too much of that, I need to keep this vehicle in good shape for reliable work truck, and I don't wanta get any dents just yet, how about never. just feel like it's a little too weak looking right now, it looks nice, but needs to look more agressive. Also, I was wondering if I can use my stock 20in wheels with a lift kit, I read under the descripotion of one kit in particular that you couldn't use the factory rims-not sure as to why. One other thing, anyone know how much it cost to have a suspension lift kit installed? don't want to risk f-in something up. New to this, was driving a station wagon for work, so just looking for some tips.
thanks,
Robert

Rancho makes a 4in. lift.
You could also get a Performance Accessories 3in. body lift kit
$1500 is about right for a suspension lift, youll have to add in the cost to install it (unless you can do it yourself).
The body lift usually runs less than $300, and its not horribly hard to install yourself (if you wanted to do that). You can buy gap guards to cover the gap between the frame and the body.
One more option is to just buy a leveling kit. This raises the front end about 2.5" and will allow you to run up to a 35" tire (on the stock rims...not totally sure if this applies to the 20" stock rims, I know with the 17" or 18" rims you can go up to a 35").

if you just want a small lift for a more aggressive lift i say just start with the leveling kit or a body lift. dont waste ur money on something you dont need IMO. put that $1500+ on some nice rims and tires
spring fever
spring is coming and the flower are blooming...lift kit questions too as a matter of fact
Seems like this is the main question lately "Which lift kit?"
the lift kit is expensive compare to the body lift but you get more clearance with the suspension than you do with the body lift.
Time wise, it can take quite a bit of time to install the body lift. So for me you should go for the suspension lift

Thats half way true. The clearance you get with a body lift does nothing but allow bigger tires. All drivetrain components are left in the stock location. With a suspension lift EVERYTHING is lifted, giving more total clearance. Personaly I am against body lifts all together, unless combined with a suspension lift to gain more clearance for tires. By themselves they look cheap and unproffesional.
Does anyone know if a lift kit will have any affect on the validity of my trucks warranty? That's a big concern of mine.
Ps thanks for the help so far, I appreciate all knowledge shared, cause I never owned an f150 before or tried to make any changes to my vehics suspension, I want my truck to look bad ***, but I want it correct, drivable, and reliable too, and I know all of that is possible, I'm just a little fuzzy on the details!
Thanks, Robert

Well, the warranty thing really depends on your dealership. Some dealerships will deny your warranty as soon as they see non-stock items on the truck. Some are willing to work with you...its just luck of the draw.
Just about every lift kit out there is reliable and does not change the stock ride much (if at all). It really depends on what look you are going for, and how much you are willing to spend.

Go with a body lift and the gap gaurds. also get some running boards to help clear up the frame under the body! will look great!. Also sense ur truck already has a factory lift, you are just adding to that. So it will equal to about 5 inches of lift total. Because with a suspension lift, you replace everything including stock, not the case with a body lift. good luck!!!
There is a Rough Country Lift Kit that is a 3 1/2" lift. The Price is Around 600 bucks, and they give you a new coil-over set up for your truck, i was considering it, just got a leveling kit instead, since i just a 2wd.
No one has mentioned yet that when you do a body lift and use bumper relocation brackets you completly lose all strength in your bumper. You trade safety for looks, which IMO isnt worth it.
suspension or body
I would say it all depends. If you want the look but not as much clearance, go for the body lift. It is cheap but it is a lot of work too.
Suspension, you get the clearance for off-road. So if you want to use it in some rough places, might want to go for the suspension lift.

I just installed King's new front and rear shock kit. (www.kingshocks.com) on my new '06 Mark LT. King's quality is awesome. Not cheap at 2K, but the quality can't be beat. The truck came up 3" and looks really good. The shocks really standout. I'm installing new upper A-arms from Psychotic tomorroo.
Thanks for the help guys, guess I'll do some more looking and prob. buy a kit over the internet or something next week some time (have to wait until I get this big ol paycheck). want to put on new exhaust system too, something loud, not like the same old quiet low tone things everyone has, I want moderately loud sound that stands out, any suggestions? I figure that my best bet is to completely replace the stock exhaust and install a true dual system. Does this sound like the best option to achieve this?
