Talking whats the difference

is the 4x4 differant than the fx4

The FX4 package gives you skid plates, different wheels, decals and the shocks are painted white with Rancho stickers (even though the valving is the same as the shocks on the towing package).

FX4's have LS and disc breaks in the rear.

they all have disc brakes in the rear.

My '99 4X4 with the offroad package has drums in the rear. I believe the 04 and newer models have discs in the rear.

The 2000 and up trucks have rear disc brakes.

like wandell said, I think after 2000 or 20001 4-wheel disc brakes became standard on all F150s.

In any case, the FX4 doesnt have much that you CANT get on a "regular" 4x4...other than the "Rancho" shocks and some styling options.

FX4 give you skid plates, rancho shocks, and 17in wheels although you can get some of those options without buying the whole pakage

i thinks it must be after 2001, b/c mine has drums and its to 2000. its a 2wd, i don't know if that makes a difference or not.

2000 is when they made the transition. mine has rear disc
