ProComp 6" lift 2wd F150...How to ?

I will be installing the ProComp 6" lift on my 2005 F150 2wd next week end. Has any body done this before? is there anything specific that I should be aware of. I got a few friends coming over to help but I've never done any suspension work before. I could barely afford the lift kit, rims, & tires so I dont have the lute to blow on a pro shop doing the install. So, any suggestions?

I wish I could help, but all I can say is read and re-read the instructing and take your time.

Here is a pic. Since the photo I tinted the windows, installed a Kenwood system w/ Musik Keg, 12" Kicker and a black tool box.

I know I'm damn late but someone who is searching for how to threads in the future should read this. CLEAN THE DAMN UNDERCARRIAGE. Mud and dirt debris will CONSTANTLY get in your face if not, try to lift it on one side and spray under there for a while the day before. Get goggles while you're under there if not and keep your mouth closed.

Read the instructions with the parts laid out in front of you, it will keep them interesting and you reading. Organize the lift parts for each side of the truck and keep each baggy with screws, nuts, etc SEPARATE from eachother...very important. Let us know how it went and get some pics up.

I'd like to see some pics of it also. Can't decide whether to go up or down with my 06 Supercrew.

It's not too bad but it takes a while. A good set of metric impact sockets is nice and an impact wrench to go along w/them is even better. My friend and I did it over the weekend a month or so ago. We are both pretty good mechanics but it's really a bolt-on that takes a long time. Actual time put in was about 10 hours altogether. Make sure you have a 36mm impact socket for the spindle nut and a honking big breaker bar or impact wrench for those. I think the torque on those is supposed to be something like 300 lb-ft. The instructions say that you must get new spindle nuts to replace the old ones. It says so right on the nut too. I didn't have the new ones when I did the lift and didn't install them until I got them in from an internet order. I didn't notice anything bad happening while I was riding around on the old ones but I think it's a very good idea to replace them.

Jackstands and a good hydraulic jack are mandatory. The factory jack is useless - especially after the lift is installed.

Ratcheting box end wrenches come in handy for some of the close work.

It seems like everything is held together w/those nyloc nuts. They are a PITA to take off and put on but I suppose they're more secure.

When you're done, you'll notice that the front is sitting higher than the rear. I don't know why Procomp does this but I don't really like the look. I bought the 4" Skyjacker add-a-leafs for the rear and installed them after I installed the lift and saw how it was sitting. It sits just about level now.

The alignment will be waaaayyy out when you are done but I got it in the ballpark by having my friend hold a level on the tires while I adjusted the cam bolts. Once the tires were level (top to bottom), I tightened the cam bolts. My caster is probably way off but my camber is close. I just eyeballed the toe-in. I've been driving it for a couple of weeks like that (going to get a real alignment on Saturday) and it doesn't pull or wander so I must have been close.

I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!

Florida Cracker,
I don't know if its my vision or not but just viewing your pics your lift doesn't look like a 6 inch lift. I geuss i'm used to see most guys have a spacer on top of their lift with a larger block in the rear. Gosh I could just imagine that long bed truck with a body lift and 38s!

Thanks. 6" Procomp lift + 4" Skyjacker add-a-leaf in the rear to level things up since the front was sitting way higher than the rear after the lift was installed. 35x12.50x17 BFG MTRs on 17x9 Moto Metal 951s.
