Ever Heard Of Cutting Coil Springs?

I Work As A Service Manager Of A Custom Aftermarket And Performance Shop. In The Past I Have Cut Coil Springs Down To Cheaply Lower Vehicles. It Works Well And Does Not Cost Anything. My Question Is Has Anyone Done This On An 04 F-150 Yet? How Many Coils Do You Cut Off? Please Let Me Know.

its not safe to lower a truck that way. Sure it can be done, sure it may leave the lot okay, but i would never consider doing that to my truck.

That is essentially what Shelby did to lower the Mustang when he made his Shelbys. He changed the spring to a stronger spring but removed 1 1/2 coils. Many years ago(1959) I lowered my 54 Ford by heating the top two coils and letting them flatten. That was the only method we knew back then. Worked just fine.

There are a lot of differing opinions on this. Some say it's ok, some say it's not.

well i have drop coils on my truck, it has the same number of coils as originall, its just wound up tighter. so the coil is shorter in length.

If it was safe to just chop the coils, all these companies selling lowering coils wouldnt make any money.....

And if you do choose to buy lowering coils, they can easily be switched back out if you dont like the ride, where as you cant just weld back on the coil you cut off
