Rearend internals

Will the internals of a rearend that came out of a '89 T-Bird work ( Be Compatible ) with my 97 f150 rearend?

they are both locking 8.8's with a 3:55 ratio

my rear end went out and i can get these parts for a good deal if they will work.

I doubt it. The t-bird uses a 28 spline and the F-150 uses a 31 spline. Another word of caution, I would not use used rear end components, gears wear to the car they are in and taking them out and putting them in another car is not suggested.

Might I ask what you did to your rear end? The parts aren't all that expensive. I built my whole rear end for under $400.00.

A FRPP 31 Spline carrier can be had for about $240 and gears for about $150 or so. An install kit with all new bearings, seals, races etc would probably run you another $130 or so.

well awhile back my clutch packs for my limited slip went out and so i was down to just a standard non locking rear. So i drove it for a few months even know i shouldnt but i had to get around.

The other day i was lightning them up and one wheel was smokin then the other one caught so how and then i had both smokin then it sounded like my rear end just blew out the back of my truck.

Well after that i have nothing. the only way i can get my truck to move is to put it in 4 wheel, and thank god for 4 wheel Hi because thats what got me home

i think its pretty sweet you built your rear for what you did. i checked into that but i came up with prices that were a lot more than buying a used rear.

how did you build your rearend for under 400 bucks? those numbers you just listed equal out to be more than 400 bucks.

When I bought my FRPP Diff they were selling for $189.00 each and the gears were selling for I think $140.00 a set. I bought 2 diffs and 2 sets of gears at once so they gave me a discount on all of it. I paid like $246.00 for the diff and gears. I also bought Moser Axles 2 sets at once and they cut me a deal giving them to me for $200 a set. Oops my math was off I spent like $450.00 lol. My cousin has a mechanic shop and did the install for a 12 pack, and they had all of the bearings, races, etc.. I needed.

I gues I was off giving that figure I wasn't really taking into account that I got discounts and free install.

Let me ask you something have you opened the rear diff to see what the damage is? You might be able to fix it without having to re-do the rear end. You can get a clutch pack re-build kit for like $50.00, and they sell the spring, cross bolt etc all for next to nothing. The only thing that I would be worried about is the spider gears as I don't think they sell them seperatly.

What you need to do is get in there and check the damage. If it is just spider gears and a clutch pack, you could get the T-bird unit use the spider gears from it and buy a clutch pack, this way you don't even have to take it out of the car.
