4x4 to 2x4 conversion

I have a 1980 truck that was wrecked pretty bad (body wise), and due to the damage and amount of rust, it aint worth fixing. The 351W in it runs like new. I found an 84 4x4 body, with no drivetrain, other then the axles. Easy engine swap, but I dont need another 4x4 (have 2 already). What I want to know is if I can simply swap my 2x4 axles over to the frame of the 4x4? It looks like it would use the same mounts and wouldnt be too hard a switch while I have the 351 out for cleaning and painting before I drop it into the new truck. I have the mechanical skills and ability, but wanted to get some opinions before I ripped into them. Thanks in advance.

How about you just keep it a 4x4 and just don't engage the 4wd though. Instant 4x2...half the hassle.

Dead weight....I have several 4x4's, I want to make a street rod with this one. I considered it, but with less then 10 nuts and bolts holding it on, I dont see it being that difficult. If it were easy, it wouldnt be fun.
