First Lift Questions
First Lift Questions
I am looking to lift my 2004 f150. This will be my first lift(other than the front 2.5" levelingt). I was looking at the fabtech, because that seems to be one talked about frequently. Probably sounds stupid but not having lifted a truck before one question I have is what coilovers are? And are they worth the money.
First....
You did not say if you have a 4x2 or a 4x4? Coilovers are basically a shock/spring assembly. Instead of being seperated, they are designed as a unit. It is much easier to change out because they come out as one piece. Coilovers are similar to units that they have in automobiles.
Once the lift goes beyond 2-3" over stock, other things have to be changed also. This could involve changing out upper and/or lower arms, new shocks, and camber kits. If you don't change these things out, you will never get the truck to align.

He's right. Coilovers are the shock and spring assembly on your front suspension. The Fabtech lift comes with replacement coilovers (the 4x2 and 4x4 systems). As an option, Fabtech offers their Dirt Logic (a nicer, heavier duty unit with adjustable preload) coilovers as an upgraded option on their lift. If you don't offroad a lot, you probably do not need them.

Actually, both pics you posted are of coilovers. They are just pics of Fabtech's standard replacement coilover shock for their 6 inch lift and their optional Dirt Logic coilover shock. The F-150's do not use struts like passenger cars.
Procomp 6" lift
That is a 6" porcomp lift with BFG AT 35". I don t have the coil over but i am thinking about it, looks even better. Anyway check out the gallery, there is a pic of the front
