Cutting Tranfer Case Shifter
Cutting Tranfer Case Shifter
I read through the instructions for the 04-05 PA 3" body lift. The only part I didn't like was where it told me that since I had the manual transfer case shifter, I would need to cut it and weld in the extension. The pics in the instructions don't look like my shifter of course.
Has anyone installed a body lift with a manual transfer case? I'd like to hear comments on your experience extending this shifter. It seems that if I extended it 3 inches, there would be a lot of travel in the end of the shifter and other modifications may need to be made. Could I get away with not cutting the shifter?
I can do everything but would have to pay to have the shifter welded. This step is the only thing holding me back from buying the kit; I'm just not comfortable with it. Thanks.

The first body lift I ever installed was on an S-10 with a manual transfer case shifter. I didn't extend the shift lever, but I had to trim the sheetmetal on the floor slightly for enough clearance for the shifter to engage 4-Lo. The shift lever just sat really low.

I called PA today and spoke with a tech guy. He sounded pretty familiar with the new body style transfer case and understood my concerns. He told me that I might have to do some trimming and bending of the shifter. He said that after I weld the extension in I might have to do some heating and bending to optimize the position to reduce trimming. I also rolled under the truck to look at the shifter and it appears to make several bends, but I think I could get it to work.
