Idle and Pitman arms...

Does anyone know what the Idle and Pitman arms are used for? I am in the process of getting a lift on my truck and was just told this morning that the shop had to order a new Pitman and Idle arm for my truck and was told that it is common for it to wear out. Has anyone had those changed out and about how much they should cost - parts only as the labor is included with the lift because they had to remove those anyway. Also, if they are wore out would those cause a shimmy in the steering when braking? I know the guy at the shop said that the alignment was good on the truck and that the brakes were in great shape so I was thinking that that would cause the steering the shimmy when braking.

Thanks,
Wayne

Sounds like they're getting you new steering components. Pitman arms are used on Steering boxes and with the lift, they will need to get you a lnoger one. An idler is usually a support bearing for steering and drive shafts so again with the lift they probabaly needed to add one.
