Question front end noise

94 ford 150 when its cold or just after taking it out of 4 wheel, the front drvier side has a lite tinny scraping sound. Then when you step on the brakes it makes a loud clunking sound several times in a row. once the tires and vehicle warms up usually about 5 miles down the road at highway speed it stops making any noise. has occured the last 2 winters. any ideas?:

I have the same problem from time to time with my '93 I usually expect it is because during spring, summer and fall my 4x4 is used only about once a week. This clunking is not all the time but I have found that stopping and backing up 20 feet or so the second time usually frees up the front end. Also check your transfer case linkage it may be binding and not fully allowing it back into 2wd
