Question IFS to stright axle

How will my ride be effected if I change from a IFS to a stright axle on my 97 F-150? Also is it worth doing? I want to go to a 12in lift and a 3in body lift with some 44in tires. wanted.

Your ride will be a lot worse. Basically the whole reason behing IFS is improved ride and handling. For what you want to do, you would be much, much better off to buy a Super Duty. Even if you do a straight axle conversion, the rest of your drivetrain is still half ton components.

if done right then it could ride nice, but there is no bolt on kit currently avalable that is worth a damn for a SAS on these f-150s, it would take alot of time and money and fabrication to do a very good SAS that rides nice and wont cause other problems in the powertrain, i am going to do one in a few years on my 03 when it is not my daily driver, i expect it to take 6 months of fabrication to get it all perfect, good luck

I talked to a guy at a car and truck show this weekend that had a (i think) 2002 chevy. He had converted from a IFS to a stright axle and said it rides better than before so that is why I want to know. Would it make a difference sense it was a chevy and not a Ford?

Chevy vs. Ford has nothing to do with it in this case, its all in the quality of the work and the research that goes into it. If the design and fabrication processes arent done properly, its going to ride like crap, regardless of whether the truck is a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc.

Half-tons (and, I think 2500's) since 1988; 3500's since 1988 or '89
